France: Rally in Front of Paris Chinese Embassy During Visit by CCP Official

He pointed out at the rally, “The CCP exerts pressure on Western countries through economic and diplomatic means to avoid condemnation of its crimes against humanity.”

(Minghui.org) Following a rally in Lyon, France a few days prior, Falun Gong practitioners held another in front of the Chinese Embassy in Paris on March 27, 2014. These rallies coincided with the visit of Xi Jinping, head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and practitioners called for bringing to justice the key perpetrators in the persecution of Falun Gong.
Falun Gong practitioners speak to Parisians in front of the Chinese Embassy on March 27, 2014.
Mr. Alain Tang, president of Falun Dafa Association of France, spoke at the event, “During CCP chief Xi Jinping’s visit to France, this rally in front of the Chinese Embassy bears great deal of significance. We call on Mr. Xi to bring to justice the main perpetrators—Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Zhou Yingkang, Zeng Qinghong, and Li Lanqing—and to stop the persecution of Falun Gong in China.”
“At least 3,745 deaths have been confirmed. Hundreds of thousand practitioners have been detained in prisons, mental hospitals, labor camps, and brainwashing centers,” he continued.
Dr. Harold King, a French representative from DAFOH (Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting), called for an immediate end to the forced organ harvesting from innocent people in China. According to Dr. King, almost all organs for transplants in China are from prisoners, many of whom are prisoners of conscience, primarily Falun Gong practitioners. Killing them for their organs violates basic medical ethics.
Mr. Tang vowed to continue efforts to expose the CCP’s crimes to the world and bring an end to the persecution.
He pointed out at the rally, “The CCP exerts pressure on Western countries through economic and diplomatic means to avoid condemnation of its crimes against humanity.”
Indeed, the rally on March 27 almost didn’t happen. Due to pressure from the CCP, the Paris Police Department declined the rally application on March 26, a day before the event.
The Falun Dafa Association in France made an urgent appeal to the Paris Administrative Court (Tribunal Administratif de Paris) , who subsequently held a hearing on the afternoon of March 26.
Judge Doumergue ruled that the ban issued by the Paris Police Department was illegal, and violated freedom of expression and assembly. She ordered that the police department withdraw the ban, and pay 1,500 Euros to the Falun Dafa Association of France.
The ruling, issued to the Falun Dafa Association and the Minister of Interior, and copied to the director of the Paris Police Department, confirmed Falun Gong practitioners’ constitutional rights and the significance of holding a rally in front of the Chinese Embassy during Xi Jinping’s visit to France.
The following excerpts appeared in the court ruling:
“The claimant association is justified to claim that [...] this refusal is a severe and clearly illegal violation of the freedom to protest and freedom of expression; Its implementation should therefore be suspended; The chief of police must be urged to let the protest happen as claimed with the conditions described above without a need to impose fines and injunctions;”
(Sixth conclusion):
“6. Considering that in the circumstances of the case, the State, the losing party in this instance, must be ordered to pay the cost of 1,500 euros to the Association of Falun Gong France (Falun Dafa France) required by article L.761-1 of the Code of Administrative Justice.”
Attorney Gabard, legal counsel for the Falun Dafa Association of France, welcomed the ruling. He said that the Paris police had downplayed the significance of the location and timing of the rally.
Mr. Gabard also clarified that the rally was not a protest against Mr. Xi, but against the policy of persecuting Falun Gong. It was not appropriate for the Paris police to position the rally as an event hostile toward Mr. Xi.

(Minghui.org) “I’m from the former East Germany. Among the Chinese, it was the same as our [East German] rulers. They are afraid.” said Mr. Jörg Seefeld, director of the event department at the Stage Theater at Potsdamer Plaza, where Shen Yun is scheduled for four performances during March 23 and 26, 2014.
The Berliner Zeitung , a daily newspaper in Berlin, reported the above in its February 12 article “Chinese Embassy Tries to Block Dance Theater.” It compared the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP’s) interference of Shen Yun performances with the arts censorship in the former East Germany and called it “Cold War at Potsdamer Plaza.”
Chinese Embassy official Chen Ping visited the Stage Theater to pressure the theater to cancel its contract for the four Shen Yun performances there.
Der Tagesspiegel (the Daily Mirror), another influential daily newspaper, also reported the interference on March 19 in an article titled “Dance against Censorship: Chinese Embassy Tries to Prevent a Ballet Performance Because Shen Yun Maintains Old Culture.”
According to the report, the CCP has tried to interfere with Shen Yun performances in many locations in addition to Berlin. It did similar things five years ago in Munich. Media reported the censorship attempt, and more people went to see the performance as a result. Because of this, the Chinese consulate in Frankfurt abandoned a similar plan.
Germans Support Shen Yun Performing Arts
“What?! Are you talking about China? This really happened in Berlin? They tried to stop Shen Yun’s performances here? This is outrageous!” Many Berliners share this sentiment when told about what had happened.
Falun Gong practitioners have set up sites on the street to expose the interference since March 18, 2014. Many passersby who viewed these displays were outraged by the CCP’s interference. They said that as a result, they would go see the performance to support Shen Yun Performing Arts.
Mr. Deme told practitioners that he had read the media articles: “Now I understand why China interferes with Shen Yun performances. Because Shen Yun helps Chinese people restore their traditional culture.”
A policeman at the Alexander Plaza said to practitioners: “I support you. What they [CCP] have done was too much!” Another two policemen saw the Shen Yun trailer and commented: “This is so beautiful! What is the CCP afraid of?”
A teacher shared with practitioners: “I am originally from East Germany. I’m all too familiar with the communist tricks.” Many people who used to live in East Berlin expressed similar sentiments.
A lot of Germans asked how they could help Shen Yun. Practitioners told them: “The best way is to experience Shen Yun for yourselves in the theater. You will find out what the performance is about, and what the CCP is so afraid of. Say ‘no’ to the CCP with your actions.” Some of them also took extra copies of materials to spread the information.
Past CCP Interference
Shen Yun Performing Arts is headquartered in New York. Its mission is to revive the divine-inspired Chinese traditional culture, and has successfully created a globally recognized presence. Meanwhile, the CCP has been trying to sabotage Shen Yun by diplomatic and espionage means all over the world. Germany has been no exception.
Two German corporations that partnered with Shen Yun received phone calls from the Chinese consulate in Frankfurt in March 2013. The companies refused to comply with the CCP’s demand that they withdraw from the partnership. One company responded by saying, “We have freedom of speech in Germany. We decide what we want to do.”
In attempts to prevent Shen Yun from performing in Frankfurt, Li Haiyan, then-Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Frankfurt, wrote to the Prime Minister of the State of Holstein, denigrating Shen Yun in the form of a state diplomatic letter, on January 6, 2009.
He also contacted consulates of other countries in Frankfurt, and lobbied them not to attend the Shen Yun shows. These attempts not only failed to stop the shows, but actually encouraged more people to see the shows. A German human rights organization exposed Li Haiyan’s letter to the Prime Minister, which became evidence of the CCP’s abuse of diplomatic power.
In March 2008, the local Shen Yun promoter, the Tonicale Concert Agency in Munich, was threatened by the Munich Chinese consulate. Tonicale first received harassing phone calls roughly every 10 minutes and then a personal visit from the Chinese vice-consul Wang Yanmin on March 11. Tonicale’s managing director was threatened that, if the show were not canceled, he might never be able to enter China again and the agency would be blacklisted from conducting business with Chinese partners.
Despite the pressure, the German agency held its ground and the shows were successfully held on schedule.

Lawyers Detained in China for Attempting to Free Falun Gong Practitioners

By Epoch Times | March 23, 2014

Four prominent rights lawyers were detained Friday in China for attempting to free Falun Gong practitioners held in a brainwashing center.
Lawyers Jiang Tianyong, Tang Jitian, Wang Cheng, and Zhang Junjie were detained by security officers after being followed to their hotel, and are now in custody in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang Province. Several relatives of the imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners were detained with the lawyers.
Two of the lawyers, Jiang Tianyong and Tang Jitian, were given 15-day administrative detentions (detained with no trial or hearing) for “using cult activities to endanger society.” It is unclear where they will be held.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Chinese authorities attacked it with negative labels in order to incite hatred. Throughout the 1990s the practice had become extremely popular, gaining 70 million practitioners with its blend of slow-motion exercises and the moral principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
The four lawyers were taken away by over 10 security officers the day before they were intending to bring suit against the Jiansanjiang Procuratorate for the illegal detention of the practitioners in Qinglongshan brainwashing center, a black jail, which is identified as the Heilongjiang Land Reclamation Bureau. This was the third time that the lawyers and family members had gone to the brainwashing center, trying to bring about the release of the practitioners. The extralegal facility operated with no oversight, and was located behind the local Public Security Bureau.
Responding to the kidnapping of the lawyers, over 100 rights lawyers and hundreds of concerned citizens released a statement condemning their confinement, which is in circulation on the Internet.
Human rights defense lawyers who handle Falun Gong cases are being targeted in the same way as the adherents they seek to defend, according to lawyer Li Fangping. “This is a new development and a new challenge,” he said, according to a blog post by Joshua Rosenzweig, a human rights researcher based in Hong Kong. Li said that several lawyers traveled to Jiamusi to intercede with public security officials there.
This is not the first time that the rights lawyers have attempted to free Falun Gong practitioners held in brainwashing centers. Last year a group of lawyers, including Jiang and Tang, were beaten at the Er’ehu Legal Education Center in Sichuan Province and were detained overnight.
“We just arrived at the legal education center and didn’t expect them to be so aggressive and violent. They leapt up and starting hitting us. Later they took us to the local police lockup—there were a lot of plainclothes police and domestic security officers there. The entire time they were extremely violent;” Jiang told Epoch Times in an interview.
Jiang Tianyong, a Christian, has specialized in religious persecution cases, and has been detained, blocked from traveling, and disbarred from practicing law in China. He testified before a U.S. House of Representatives Human Rights Commission hearing in 2009 on the “level of harassment, suppression, and persecution, because we serve as defense counsels in cases of safeguarding the freedom of religious belief.”
Tang Jitian has also been detained and lost his license to practice for his work with Falun Gong practitioners, the melamine-tainted milk victims, and other human rights cases. In 2011, he was held and tortured, then placed under house arrest.
Wang Cheng was instrumental in the launch of an online signature campaign calling on Beijing to ratify the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. He too has been detained for his advocacy activities.
Shandong-based Zhang Junjie worked with Jiang Tianyong on the case of activist Xue Mingkai, whose father died under suspicious circumstances.
“This naked frame-up is a serious abuse of power and violation of the law—a serious rule-of-law disaster that tramples on human rights,” accused the authors of the statement of condemnation.
