[Minghui.org] Falun Dafa Practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng, 42, Dies as a Result of Torture in Jiamusi City

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was a Falun Dafa practitioner in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. She was arrested three times and suffered much persecution and torture. While imprisoned in Jiamusi City Forced Labor Camp, she was handcuffed with her arms behind her back and forced to do slave labor. Several doctors and guards also forcibly drew blood from her. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was released after three years and one week of imprisonment. However, she never recovered from the abuse she suffered in detention, and passed away on September 13, 2006.

Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng, 42 years old, was a graduate of Jiamusi City Normal College and was a teacher at the Youyi Sugar Factory-Affiliated School. When the persecution against Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, the Education Bureau expelled her from work under the guise of a layoff.

Ms. Zhang was “illegally imprisoned” in 2000. She developed scabies all over her body that itched profusely, and the pain was unbearable. Later, the scabies developed into scabs that oozed pus. She could not wear any clothing and could not take care of herself. She suffered under this pain for several months.

In April 2002, when Zhang Xiaogeng was again imprisoned at Jiamusi City Detention Center, she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards instructed several male prisoners to force-feed her. They handcuffed her on the floor with all four limbs stretched out. A thick plastic tube was inserted through her mouth down to her stomach. They force-fed her cold, salty (high density salt water) corn starch paste. Ms. Zhang vomited and suffered terrible pain. She was handcuffed on the floor for a long time and was not released even when she needed to use the restroom.

After one-and-a-half months in the detention center, Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng was sentenced to three years of forced labor. She suffered more brutal persecution in Jiamusi Labor Camp.

Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng refused to do the slave labor at the labor camp in 2000. Guard Guo Zhenwei and another guard beat her with police batons for more than twenty minutes. They turned up the radio volume in the hallway to cover up the noises from the beating. Ms. Zhang was bruised all over her body and had to be bedridden for two weeks after the abuse. Her buttocks turned completely black.

One morning guard Sun Limin tried to forced Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng and Ms. Ma Cuihong to work. They both refused, saying they had not committed any crime and therefore were not criminals and should not be subjected to forced labor. Soon two male guards arrived and began beating the two women with police batons. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng questioned guard Zhang Xiaodan: “We did not commit any crime! How can you publicly beat us?” The police answered, “This is the law.” Several female guards kicked Ms. Zhang and Ms. Ma with their leather boots, yelling, “We will stop only when you work.” After the beating, a tall, big guard pointed his police baton at Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng’s face and said, “You look pretty! Smile at me, otherwise I will beat you again!”

On November 1, 2002, the labor camp attempted to force all practitioners to undergo brainwashing and write statements denouncing Falun Dafa. Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng refused. Guards Li Xiujin and Zhang Xiaodan knocked her down to the floor and twisted one of her hands up from behind her back, then they pulled her other hand up over her shoulder and used a small set of handcuffs to handcuff both hands behind her back. She was unable to move her hands. The handcuffs cut deeply into her flesh. Two hours later when the guards opened the cuffs, her hands had lost any sensation and were swollen and purple. Ms. Zhang’s hands were numb for three or four months afterwards and there was still a lump on her right wrist when she passed away in 2006.

Ms. Zhang suffered from the brutal torture of this “back handcuffing” several times. On May 7, 2003, thirteen days after she went on a hunger strike, she was extremely week and thin; yet, guard Hong Wei beat her with a police baton for more than two hours and handcuffed her arms behind her back, to force her give up her hunger strike. Another time when Ms. Zhang was back-handcuffed and the cuffs were cutting deeply into the flesh, she was in so much pain that she could hardly breathe and thought she would die. This torture lasted as long as three to four hours.

Ms. Zhang Xiaogeng also suffered other abuses in the labor camp, such as being forbidden to sleep for a long time, being forced to sit on a hard small stool for a long time, and forced to do slave labor.

After three years of brutal persecution in the labor camp, on her release in 2005, Zhang Xiaogeng was extremely weak. She often felt dizzy and coughed a lot. Ms. Zhang’s health deteriorated quickly after May 2006. She lost consciousness in August and passed away on September 13, 2006.

In the First Division of the Heizuizi Labor Camp, practitioners were forced to work hard for 17 to 20 hours per day. They could only sleep for an hour or two at night. Sometimes they were not allowed to sleep at all. The guards also ordered other inmates to take turns watching the practitioners. They did not allow practitioners to talk to each other. In winter, practitioners had to use icy cold water to shower. 

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wei Fengju was a teacher at the Dongfeng County No. 4 Middle School in Jilin Province. She was illegally sentenced to forced labor three times, for a total of almost six years. During the detention she became very debilitated and was no longer able to work. On April 13, 2007, she was released and returned home. After three months, her health still had not recovered. She was very thin and not able to take care of herself. At 4:15 p.m. on July 12, 2007, she died at the age of 50.

While in detention, Ms. Wei was subjected to all kinds of torture. Guards shocked her with electric batons. Her mouth became disfigured. When she was detained in the labor camp the last time, around the 2007 Chinese New Year, she had pain in her abdomen and could not eat. She asked to see a doctor. Since the doctor of the camp clinic was not around, her pain was not treated until she was released. After going home, she became emaciated and could not eat. Her situation got worse and worse, and in the end, her urine became bloody.

Wei Fengju started cultivating Falun Dafa before 1998, and many illnesses she had disappeared without a trace. After the Jiang regime started to persecute Falun Gong on July 22, 1999, she still sincerely cultivated. She was arrested on December 30, 1999, because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. On the night of January 1, 2000, policeman Chen Shuangyou from the Dongfeng County Political Security Section (now the National Security Team) in Jilin Province escorted her back by train. She was detained in the First Division of the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp for a year.

In the First Division of the Heizuizi Labor Camp, practitioners were forced to work hard for 17 to 20 hours per day. They could only sleep for an hour or two at night. Sometimes they were not allowed to sleep at all. The guards also ordered other inmates to take turns watching the practitioners. They did not allow practitioners to talk to each other. In winter, practitioners had to use icy cold water to shower. One day, all the team leaders, guards from the First Division, policeman Yang, and Chief Lian from the administration section forced the practitioners in the First Division to stand in line. They shocked every practitioner with electric batons. The guards shocked Wei Fengju’s chest.

Wei Fengju’s term was extended by two months. She was released in March 2001. The school did not restore her position, so she had no source of income. Her husband divorced her and did not leave her any property. She did not have any place to stay. Her child was just 15 years old at that time and there was no one to take care of the child.

On January 15, 2002, Wei Fengju was arrested again because she clarified the truth about Falun Gong. She was detained in the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City for over three years. She was released in the first half of 2005. She went to her old school to ask for her job back, but the school did not restore her position. The 610 Office, the politics and law committee, the education bureau, and the school in Dongfeng County shifted responsibility from one to the other. Later they framed her and asked her if she still practiced Falun Dafa. She said, “Yes.” Then they told her to sign a document. After she signed the document, they took the document as “evidence” for her arrest. They followed her for twenty days and arrested her again in October 2005. She was detained in the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp for one and a half years, and was released on April 30, 2007.

While Wei Fengju was detained, her mother passed away after being paralyzed in bed for 18 years. Camp officials did not allow Wei Fengju to go home and see her mother’s face for the last time. The camp never allowed her family members to visit her.

After going home, Wei Fengju never regained her health. She had a poor and difficult life. She could not take care of herself and was very thin. Only her 70-year-old father took care of her. Her elderly father was very worried when he saw that his daughter had been so severely persecuted. Soon, his health became worse and by the time of her death, he could barely walk.

Ms. Li and 17 other practitioners co-signed a letter requesting them to stop the torture. The Camp Administration assigned three male guards to the Third Ward, who took these 18 practitioners one-by-one to an office to electro-shock them while beating them. When these three male guards got tired at night, guard Huo Yan would continue the brutality.

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Shuzhen, 58, was formerly employed by the Huaxin Wood Products Company, a division of the Tonghua County Forestry Bureau. She began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996, and soon became very healthy. After the persecution started in 1999, Party officials ransacked her home, extorted money from her, sent her to a forced labor camp, and brutally beat her multiple times.

In December 2000, the police found a truth-clarifying flyer while ransacking her home. The police then procured many flyers as “evidence” and detained her in the Tonghua County Detention Center, where she went on hunger strike to protest. Deputy Director Wang Liping had a male prisoner bring dirty water that was used to wash feet mixed with some milk power. Then he spat in the mixture and force-fed it to Ms. Li. Ms. Li was tortured so severely that she began to have symptoms of heart disease, and she vomited blood for two days, which stopped the guards from further force-feeding her. When Ms. Li did the Falun Dafa exercises in the detention center, Wang Liping always cursed or beat her and had guard Jiang Minhua spray her with a hose. Ms. Li was released after four months, and the police extorted three thousand yuan from her family.

On April 8, 2001, Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal. Officer Jin Minglie, Zheng Rong, and Ms. Li’s husband went to Beijing to pick her up. Ms. Li’s husband had to pay all the costs and 1,100 yuan in cash. Ms. Li was sentenced to three years of forced labor. She was imprisoned in the Third Ward of the Changchun City Women’s Labor Camp. Ms. Li was deprived of sleep for a full day, and guards Jin Lihua and Huo Yan punched, kicked, and slapped her. When Ms. Li was ordered to perform slave labor beyond her capability, guard Sun Jia would beat and curse her. Warden Fu Yufen punched and kicked her, causing her to experience chest and foot pain. Deputy Warden Xi Guirong shocked her with electric batons.

On March 5, 2003, the cable TV network was tapped into in Changchun City, and afterwards the guards escalated the abuse of detained Falun Dafa practitioners. Ms. Li and 17 other practitioners co-signed a letter requesting them to stop the torture. The Camp Administration assigned three male guards to the Third Ward, who took these 18 practitioners one-by-one to an office to electro-shock them while beating them. Ms. Li’s term was extended for seven days after her three-year term ended. Her employer never paid her pension, and she had to retire without any income.

On January 30, 2007, Ms. Li went to the Labor Bureau with her husband to see if she could receive some heating benefits. She was waiting in the lobby for her husband, but he could not find her afterwards. He looked everywhere for her.

At 4 p.m. the same day, officer Zhao Cunbo from the Tonghua County Police Department took her home and said to her husband, “Your wife was lost, and we took her home. Let me introduce Deputy Director Lin Bin. You should take your Residence Permit booklet and personal ID tomorrow, and you can receive 200 yuan of heating benefits at the Sanhepu Community Office.” Ms. Li’s husband thanked them. After they left, he found that they had deceived him. In reality, they had taken Ms. Li to be interrogated at the police department and searched her in a restroom. Ms. Li resisted, but she was not clear exactly what they did to her. After that incident, Ms. Li suffered incontinence, and she was bed-ridden and could not take care of herself. She died on March 7, 2008. The police went to harass her family four days after she died.

The family saw large areas of black and blue bruises on the back of his body, obvious signs that Mr. Han Zhenju had been beaten severely. The perpetrators claimed Han Zhenju died from heart disease, an illness that had never afflicted Han Zhenju. Because of China’s information blockade, the details are still being investigated.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Mr. Han Zhenju from Yongqing County, Hebei Province was arrested in March 2003 and sent to the Kaiping Labor Camp in Tangshan City. He was later transferred to the Gaoyang Labor Camp in Baoding City, where he was tortured to the brink of death. He was returned to the Kaiping Labor Camp, where he was tortured to death on May 15, 2004. Han Zhenju’s family saw large areas of black and purple marks on the back of his body, and the details call for further investigation.

Mr. Han Zhenju was 53 years old and lived in Sidaohang Village, Sanshengkou Town, Yongqing County, Hebei Province.

In October 1999, Han Zhenju went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested and detained at Yongqing County Detention Center. In late 2000, he was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor for appealing for Falun Gong. Savage torture followed at the Gaoyang Labor Camp in Baoding, Hebei Province. He got out of the labor camp in an open and dignified manner. During the “Two Party Meetings” in 2002, Han Zhenju was once again arrested and held in a brainwashing class for two weeks. During the morning of March 23, 2003, officer Zhang Zhenqing and other police officers from No. 1 Politics and Security Section of Yongqing County Police Department arrested him from home without following any legal procedures and sent him to the Kaiping Labor Camp in Tangshan City.

Mr. Han Zhenju held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. One month later he was again sent to the Gaoyang Labor Camp in Baoding, Hebei Province. Officers there tortured him to the brink of death and then transferred him back to the Kaiping Labor Camp. The perpetrators at the Kaiping Labor Camp continued to torture him. On May 14, 2004 they notified Mr. Han’s family that he was in critical condition and urged his family to come for a visit. On May 15 in the morning, the perpetrators told the family that Han Zhenju had passed away.

Every day he had to get up at 6:00 o’clock in the morning and then was forced to squat facing the wall. He was also forced to work nearly 20 hours a day.

Mr. Zhang Jianxun was a 64-year-old resident of Houliuying Village, Anping County, Hebei Province. He was a retired employee from the county Civil Affairs Bureau. After he started to practice Falun Gong, he became very healthy and was very energetic. Having benefited from Falun Gong, he told everyone he met how Falun Gong helped him.

On August 9, 2000, Mr. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He submitted an appeal letter to the Central Appeal Office. However, he was arrested right on the spot. He had never thought that he would be arrested while exercising his right to appeal as a citizen. He was taken back to Anping County and was detained in the county detention center for over 20 days. While in detention, he was also forced to do hard labor. Later the political section chief, Hou Dajian from the county police department extorted 2,000 Yuan (1) from his family before finally setting him free. In fact, Hou was a relative of Zhang and he thought he had done Zhang a favor by pressuring him to give up Falun Dafa.

On February 4, 2001, Mr. Zhang was arrested again and forced to go through brainwashing. He was detained for over half a month before he was released. A couple of days later, on February 21, Wang Quanzheng and Zhao Jiyong from the Civil Affairs Bureau took him away from home and sent him to the county detention center. The bureau had cut off his salary for nearly two years, yet they still colluded with the police to persecute him. Later Zhang was sentenced to one year of forced labor.

Several days later, he could no longer endure the hard labor. He often stumbled and he could not easily get up. Seeing he could no longer work, the police then transferred him to a different unit. In the new unit, because he refused to write the guarantee letter, the police did not allow him to sleep and tortured him around the clock. By the third day in the new unit, he suddenly lost his memory and could not speak. The doctors diagnosed that he had suffered a stroke. A healthy 64-year-old man was tortured to such an extent in just one month. He could no longer take care of himself. 

In order to shirk responsibility, the labor camp authorities informed his family to pick him up, releasing him on medical parole. At the same time, they also extorted 240 Yuan from his family. After he returned home, his family found that his fingernails had come off due to the torture. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he never recovered his ability to speak. He wasn’t able to tell his family, fellow practitioners or the world’s people how he was tortured in the labor camp. On June 13, 2002, he passed away in the hospital despite emergency treatment.

During the detention, Xia Gang became extremely weak from torture, and he was released on bail for medical treatment in June 2001. On October 16, 2001, he passed away at age 32 after experiencing numerous organ failures. This is another crime the Wuhan City Police Department has committed against Dafa practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Mr. Xia Gang, born on July 5, 1969, lived in Wuhan City. He was a production line group leader at the No. 3 Workshop, Wuhan Cigarette Factory. After Jiang’s regime began slandering Dafa, Xia Gang went to Beijing to appeal and was illegally detained. The Wuhan Cigarette Factory authorities then fired him. 

In early March 2001, police from the No. 1 Division of Wuhan City Police Department kidnapped Xia Gang as he was making truth clarification materials. The police sent him to No. 8 Qingdao Road, Wuhan City, where the No. 1 Division of Wuhan City Police Department is located. No. 1 Qingdao Road is another place that belongs to the No. 1 Division. On March 6, 2001, Xia Gang was transferred to the No. 2 Camp of the No. 7 Division, Wuhan City Police Department, where he was illegally detained for one month. Later, he was transferred to other places to be secretly detained. On April 30, 2001, he was sent to the Hewan Labor Camp in Wuhan City.
