Communist Flag and Portraits Sent into Tibet Temples: Brainwashing?

Anchor: Since 2008, there have been at least 16 Tibetans self-
immolations to protest the Chinese policy on Tibet and
numerous repressions of the Tibetans by the Communist
regime.

Once again bloody conflict between police and Tibetans
took place even on the Eve of the Chinese New Year.
Meanwhile, the Tibet Autonomous Region government announced a local activity titled,
“Send the communist flag and portrait of fourth-generation
leaders to villages, households, and temples.”

Voice: On the morning of January 22nd, Dragon Year's Eve,
Tibet Autonomous Region officials held a ceremony
to unveil a portrait of four Communist leaders, Mao Zedong,
Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao.

The officials indicated that sending the communist flag and
portrait of four generations of leaders to villages, households, and temples is extensively on-going within the region.
More than one million copies of communist flags and
portraits have been delivered.

The chair of Chinese Social Democratic Party, Liu Yinchuan,
believes the purpose of the Chinese Communists is
to strengthen its one-party dictatorship in Tibet and
brainwash Tibetans with the Communist Party culture.

Liu Yinchuan: “With its one-party dictatorship, with the
Communist Party culture, with the Communist Party totem,
the CCP slowly eliminates the Buddhist faith. This is
consistent with the communist regime's religious policy.
On the surface, the Communist Party's Constitution
stipulates freedom of religion;
but it is transforming the religion into a united front tool,
and exploiting the religion to strengthen its authority.

Harvard University fellow Dr. Yang Jianli points out that
neither the communist flag nor the communist portrait could replace the Dalai Lama in the hearts of Tibetans.

In early December 2011, the Party United Front Work
Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region held a meeting to implement the “nine must haves” policy.
It regulates all temples must have 9 items, including a portrait
of the four leaders, party flag, CCP mouthpiece People's Daily, and so on.

Liu Yinchuan sees this regulation as an absurd lack of
respect for Tibetans.

Liu Yinchuan: "Every occasion has its specified ornaments.
A temple is a place to worship.
The must haves are Buddha, Buddhist doctrines,
and things relevant to Buddhism.
Any irrelevant items will only make the temple nondescript."

Liu Yinchuan explains that with the CCP flag and portrait in
the temple is a desecration to the temple and a violation of religious beliefs.

Since 2008, there have been at least 16 Tibetans self
immolations protesting against the Chinese policy on Tibet.
On January 24th, at least four people were killed and dozens
injured by communist police in Serthar County of Sichuan where the bloodshed protest took place.

Dawa Tsering, Chair of the Tibet Religious Foundation of
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, says that conflict such as this is happening all over in Tibet.
This is because the Communist regime does not allow any
legitimate demands from the Tibetans and their beliefs.

Dawa Tsering : "The Chinese (Communist) regime views
any dissatisfaction with the government and
any activity such as appeal, protest, or petition as a resistance,
and labels them as factors of instability so that armed police are directly deployed to deal with them.
There should be plenty of coordination and communication
in a community.
However, to the Chinese Communist Party, there is only one
way, and that is to suppress directly with the army or police, and then it's a gun shot."

Dawa Tsering points out that Beijing treats Tibet as a colony,
and Tibetans as non-citizens.

On the 19th, Freedom House, a U.S.-based non-government
and human rights organization published its annual report,
“Freedom in the World 2012,” in which Tibet is “the worst of
the worst” for both political rights and civil liberties under Chinese jurisdiction.
