On the occasion of the visit of the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Greece the Greek practitioners of Falun Gong, an ancient peaceful meditation based on the universal principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance, gathered in Syntagma Square, Athens to raise awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
Practitioners demonstrated the exercises of Falun Gong dressed in traditional Chinese yellow outfits, other practitioners handed out information about Falun Gong and the situation in China.
Today Falun Gong is violently persecuted in China by the ruling communist party. Certain members of China’s dictatorship saw Falun Gongs popularity and its roots in traditional Chinese Culture as a challenge to the party and its moral authority. Since 1999 party rulers have waged a relentless and unlawful campaign to wipe out Falun Gong they have employed a range of tactics including inciting hatred through propaganda: abductions, arbitrary imprisonments, systematic brainwashing and extensive use of torture.
The demonstration had a good impact and was very well received. People were moved and wanted to help by signing the petition to end the persecution in China, some were interested to learn the exercises and they encouraged and thanked the practitioners for their efforts in clarifying the truth.
