For more news visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.com
Burmese pro-democracy advocate Aung San Suu Kyi hasn't seen her son Kim Aris for 11 long years.
That all changed on Tuesday when Suu Kyi and the younger of her two children were finally reunited.
Aris, who lives in Britain, flew in from Bangkok for this very public meeting of mother and son at the airport in Rangoon.
Aris last saw his mother in Burma in April 1999 while she was under house arrest.
Since then he's been repeatedly denied visas by Burma's military government.
Their reunion follows Suu Kyi's release from house arrest on November 13th.
She's spent 15 of the past 21 years in some form of detention.
Suu Kyi also has another son, Alexander.
Her husband, British scholar Michael Aris, died in 1999.

Touching Human Rights Torch Relay
Will You Carry The Torch ?
Human Rights in China
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tInncQIKqL8)
The Human Rights Torch Relay is an international campaign that seeks to bring an end to all human rights abuses against the people of China, while highlighting the persecution of Falun Gong - the most severely persecuted group in China today. During the run up to the 2008 Olympics, the HRTR will host events in 37 countries across six continents to present its message: The Olympics and crimes against humanity cannot coexist in China.
The Tibetan, Burmese, and Vietnamese communities, the Darfur Support Network (Sudan), Chinese democracy groups, student groups, former Olympians, and representatives from sports and politics are among the relay participants.
Background
Since China was chosen as the 2008 Olympic site, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Reporters Without Borders have all reported a marked increase in violent repression aimed at silencing groups and individuals the CCP has labeled as enemies.
In June 2005, China's deputy public security minister Liu Jing was given the job of eradicating Falun Gong before the 2008 Olympics.
In April 2006, a secret and unprecedented espionage directive revealed CCP plans to investigate and bar thousands from the 2008 games, including International Olympic Committee members, staff and guests; sponsors; referees, athletes and delegates; media; the Dalai Lama, the handicapped, land rights activists, and anyone who falls within 43 categories of "unwanteds."
Deeply concerned about the Chinese regime's worsening human rights record and, in particular, its horrific treatment of Falun Gong adherents, on June 8th 2007, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) sent a letter to the communist leadership asking them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and to allow CIPFG entry into China to investigate the persecution and the issue of mass, state-sanctioned organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. Not unexpectedly, there was no reply. CIPFG believes that the CCP has confirmed its unwillingness to be transparent and to respect human life; therefore, CIPFG initiated the Relay, which kicked off on August 9, 2007 in Athens, Greece. The event is traveling in Europe, Australia, Africa and South America before coming to the U.S. in March, 2008.

India: Introducing Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) in Ladakh
By a Falun Dafa practitioner in India
Source: http://clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2010/11/24/121585.html
(Clearwisdom.net) Ladakh is a remote area in the Himalayas, at the northern tip of India. Every summer, Falun Gong practitioners in other areas of India visit here to introduce local residents and foreign tourists to Falun Gong, teach them the execises, and inform them about the persecution. Sometimes, practitioners from other countries also came to help.
Choglamsar was hit by serious flooding in August this year. Residents lost their homes and had to live in tents. Many people lost their loved ones, and they were traumatized by the disaster. Falun Gong practitioners spent ten days teaching the exercises at the local rescue camp. Those who learned the exercises included the elderly and the young, teenagers and adults of different age groups. Rescue comittee members expressed their gratitude to practitioners on the final day of the exercise instruction. They invited the practitioners to come again next year to their newly established homes to teach them the exercises.
Practitioners held a truth clarification exhibition and exercise teaching activity at a hall of a school in Choglamsar, 8 km away from Leh. Hundreds of students and their teachers were pleased to learn about Falun Dafa. Some teachers spent a lot of time explaining to their students about the exhibition. A teenage student enthusiastically helped put up posters. He told the practitioners that he had a Falun Dafa informational VCD, and had watched it many times. He could sing a song from it quite well. He thanked the practitioners for coming to his school to hold activities.
Children showed great interest in learning the exercises. Many asked their PE teachers to allow them to continue doing the exercises ast school in the future. All of the teachers are Tibetans in this school, and many of the students are Tibetan. They are very familiar with the Chinese Communist Party's trampling upon human rights.
Many teachers received truth clarification materials years ago, and helped their students learn about Falun Gong and the persecution. There are many Dafa books and informational materials in the school's library.
A practitioner displayed many posters, calendars and informational materials in Leh. During the 2009 book fair held in Dehli, a young Indian woman came to the Falun Gong booth, and said that she came because she had seen Falun Dafa information everywhere in Leh.
Falun Dafa related books, magazines, flyers and VCDs have been delivered to all households, libraries, school principals, police bureaus, military camps, judges, lawyers, hospitals, religious leaders, Tibetan markets, restaurants, Internet bars, tourist agencies and hotels.
A local television station in Ladakh brodcast a 20-minute Falun Dafa program. In the program, two practitioners demonstrated the five sets of the exercises and gave a background explanation about Falun Gong.

Fear and Hope for Refugees at Thai-Burmese Border (Photos)

With the release of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma (also known as Myanmar) is back in the spotlight, and the world is watching what will come next: greater openness from the ruling junta or more of the iron fist that the generals are better known for. Also watching closely are the ghosts of Burma’s past, sitting forgotten beyond the country’s borders in refugees camps in Thailand, some have spent more than 25 years there clinging to the simple hope of seeing their country free—and soon. (Click here to see the Photo Gallery )
In 1984, however, a major assault on Karen State sent some 10,000 refugees into Thailand, many have been there ever since—raising families, living in limbo, dependent on foreign aid.
By this time it was clear that the oppression in Burma was not going to end soon, so the Thai government consolidated the villages into refugee camps.
Today, nearly 150,000 people live in nine camps along the over 2,000-kilometer (1,250-mile) border with Burma. In the eyes of the Thai government, their residents are not “refugees” but “displaced people,” since Thailand does not recognize the legality of refugees.
This puts the refugees in a situation of suspended animation. Although they can stay for an unlimited time in the camps, they cannot obtain permanency in Thailand. Thailand only provides temporary shelter to the oppressed, acting as a buffer until they can be resettled to a third country with the help of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). This can take years and is a solution for some, but not all.
Tha Lai: Safe but a Hard Life
“I spent 15 years in the Mae La Oon camp, after being oppressed and discriminated against by the Burmese military,” said Tha Lai, a former Karen refugee, now living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
With the help of an interpreter, Tha Lai shared his story over the phone.
“While I lived in Burma, I had a happy life with my family. In 1992, [the] Burmese military started demolishing and firing on villages; they went from one village to another, chasing people out of the village, firing on the houses, and killing people. They came to my village, so we had to run for our lives in order to survive. We didn’t have much rice and could not take anything with us, as the attack on the village was very sudden. I had to seek refugee status in Thailand, fearing that otherwise [the] Burmese military would arrest and kill me.”
Together with his wife and three small children, Tha Lai headed into the jungle, hoping to survive somehow. After three weeks without proper food and water, they reached the border where they joined other refugees.
Although safe, the camp was still a hard place to live. All refugees in the camp had to obey Thai laws and were not allowed to exit the camp.
“Many refugees tried to go outside of the camp to get money to live a better life, and then they were caught and imprisoned.”
Tha Lai says [the] Thai government allows refugees from Burma to stay on its territory, as long as they obey Thai law. But the intention of Thai authorities is that once Burma obtains democracy, they will send everyone back.
Tha Lai, now 60, was lucky enough to be resettled in the United States in Nov. 2009 with the help of the UNHCR. Although he is not sure he will go back to Burma, he has hopes that his children will have that chance one day.

After the Burmese military took control of Burma in a coup in 1962, they began a suppression campaign against local ethnic groups, pushing them to the edges of the country. Since 1975, Burmese refugees from the main ethnic groups—Karen, Kachin, and Shan—have been fleeing to Thailand to escape the violence. They took shelter in temporary settlements just across the border, and could often return home when the fighting subsided. In 1984, however, a major assault on Karen State sent some 10,000 refugees into Thailand, many have been there ever since—raising families, living in limbo, dependent on foreign aid.

Coconut Oil Treats Acne
By Louise McCoy

If you had a choice of remedies for acne, would you choose lauric-acid-filled nanobombs delivered by gold nanoparticles straight to the membrane of the offending acne bacteria? Or would you choose to apply coconut oil to your face and let nature take its course?
Lauric acid is only one of the antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral substances in coconut oil. If you chose the nanobombs, go to Sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/04/100414184224.htm.
One would wonder why anyone would choose a medication using nanoparticles to deliver part of a natural substance (coconut oil) that contains even more ingredients with skin-healing properties: capric acid and vitamin E. Although nanoparticles are now being used to deliver medications to certain bodily sites, their long-term side effects are little-known.
On “Coconut Oil Reviews,” Acne.org/coconut-oil-reviews/474/page5.html, 28 people shared their experiences using unrefined, organic, extra-virgin coconut oil.
Acne, well-known to almost every teenager, is an inflammation of the oil glands, especially on the face. It seems counterintuitive to put oil on skin already oily, and many people hesitated using coconut oil for that reason. But after trying it, they were pleasantly surprised to see their skin become more normal.
Not all of them had acne—some had dry skin or eczema—but most of them were benefited even though there were several individual methods of application. Some would wash their face, apply a little oil, either steam their face or just wait a few minutes, and then wipe it off. Others left it on overnight.
There was a wide variation in sensitivity to the oil. Four people found coconut oil made their acne worse, but most found the oil brought noticeable improvement.
The benefits they reported, along with clearing up acne, were healing scars, making pores smaller, and causing wrinkles to disappear. Generally, the total health of the skin is enhanced by coconut oil.
Although acne was greatly improved or cured in 21 cases, some broke out in whiteheads and stopped putting the oil on their faces. One waited two weeks before stopping. Others felt this was a detoxifying event and allowed the whiteheads to clear up.
Several people felt the oil was unsuitable to put on the face, at least at first, and used it on legs, arms, hands, and feet. For those who can put coconut oil on their faces, it does not cause the eyes to smart as many creams and oils do. Some chose to eat it—from 2 to 6 tablespoons a day, in smoothies, on ice cream, in soups, or just plain
Coconut oil has not been widely recommended by the media. One person had had acne for 25 years before discovering this use of the oil. For others, it was 12 and 7 years.
Coconut oil is very greasy and shiny when first applied, which almost everyone listed as a con. This did not prevent some from rubbing it all over their bodies after a shower, putting on flannel sleepwear, going to bed, and waking up with silky skin in the morning.
The oil is a solid up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Warmer than that, it becomes liquid. Most people found a little bit goes a long way. Since it is nontoxic, it can be applied daily, even several times a day.
“Coconut Oil Reviews” mainly addressed coconut oil and acne, but many other skin conditions respond to coconut oil. See: Coconutdiet.com/skin_health.htm. It could be the dermatologist’s best friend or worst enemy. After a while, people would tell their friends, and, since it isn’t a prescription item, dermatologists might have to take up another specialty.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coconut oil is oil from mature coconuts. It has been used for food for hundreds of years, but many people are not aware it can be used externally to fight acne and other skin conditions, such as eczema.
(From: http://ezinearticles.com/?Coconut-Oil-For-Acne&id=4090233)
How coconut oil treats acne?
The idea that applying oil on the skin could help acne sounds absurd at first - most people with acne want to have less oil on their skin.
But it takes more than excess sebum to cause acne, and that helps to explain how coconut oil can help with acne.
To get acne you need two things: blocked pores and inflammation. It's inflammation that turns blocked pores into red and angry pimples. You get inflammation when your immune system attacks the bacteria residing in blocked skin pores.
Coconut oil helps to prevent inflammation, and hence it can also prevent acne.
The magic is in two fatty acids, lauric acid and capric acid. On the human skin these are converted into anti-bacterial and anti-viral substances. To put it simply. Coconut oil kills the acne causing bacteria on the skin. And with the bacteria gone there's nothing for your immune system to react to. This means less inflammation and less acne.
Coconut is also rich in vitamin E, which is a well-known skin nutrient. Vitamin E helps to soothe inflammation and repair skin damage.
So it does the same thing all those expensive skin creams claim to do.
How to use coconut oil for acne
Using your preferred cleanser clean your skin thoroughly. Don't skip this step as it can lead to more acne!
Steam your face by putting a towel over your head and leaning over a bowl of hot water.
Massage a small amount of coconut oil on your face.
Wring out a facecloth in hot water and drape it over your face. This allows the oil to go deep into the skin.
Wait for a minute or two and and wipe your face clean.
Using coconut oil this way also helps to get rid of acne scars.
Goodness from the inside out
The goodness of coconut oil is not limited to external use. It's also a great friend in the kitchen. Coconut (and its oil) not only tasted good, but it can help acne and your overall health.
It helps your body to fight Candida and yeast infections (both of which are linked to acne). It soothes chronic inflammation and helps to prevent blood sugar spikes. Chronic inflammation and blood sugar swings are the main factors behind adult acne.
Warning, not suitable for everyone
Though many acne victims swear by coconut oil, it's not for everyone. In some cases it can make your acne worse.
It seems that coconut oil can stimulate the skin glands to produce more sebum. This can cause more acne for some people, and especially if your skin pores are blocked. That's why it's important to clean your face thoroughly before applying the oil.
Unfortunately there's no way to know in advance how your skin reacts. So starts slowly and see what happens.
Not an end all and be all acne treatment
Coconut oil is by no means a be all and end all acne treatment. Please keep in mind that acne is an internal problem. Blocked pores and pimples are just a symptom of deeper issues (such as blood sugar swings and chronic inflammation).
To get over adult acne permanently one has to take a holistic approach that takes into account your diet, lifestyle and emotional health (stress).
Coconut oil will not solve the root cause of acne. But it can help to keep your acne under control while you correct the underlying problems.

Coconut oil is oil from mature coconuts. It has been used for food for hundreds of years, but many people are not aware it can be used externally to fight acne and other skin conditions, such as eczema.

Meditation and Your health
Add Meditation to Your Anti-Aging Regimen

Meditation is the best value package for your health because it gives you the most benefit for your time. Twenty minutes a day of mindfulness meditation provides inner peace, reduces disease risks, and can even add years to your life. Research shows promising evidence that meditation can slow down aging at the cellular level, prolonging your lifespan.
The origins of mindfulness meditation stem from the East and are rooted in spirituality. Historically, Buddhist practitioners use meditation as a process for integrating spiritual teachings to enlighten to the purpose of life and achieve ultimate spiritual freedom. Mindfulness meditation has been adapted in the West mainly as techniques to relieve physical and mental discomfort.
Despite its secular transformation, the practice of heightened mindfulness, or the ability to retain clear mental focus at any moment, can still delay the process of aging, according to a publication in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences last year.
Meditation’s ability to nurture positive emotions and its effectiveness as therapy for depression and stress relief has been documented in medical literature since the 1970s. The decrease in stress levels associated with meditation postpones cellular aging and death.
The cells in our body contain telomeres, which are small, protective caps at the end of DNA strands. Each time our cells divide, the telomeres shorten in order to safeguard DNA from damage. Scientists now widely accept the length of telomeres as a marker of cell age—the shorter the telomere, the older and more exhausted the cell and the whole organism.
Under pressure or in anxiety, our bodies release more stress-triggered hormones such as cortisol and catecholamines. Spikes in these hormones are linked to shortened telomeres, which signify physical aging.
Results from neural imaging tools and biochemical labs confirm that changes in brain activity caused by meditation also lower levels of these stress hormones. It is thought that this can lead to less snipping of telomeres and in essence prolong the lives of our cells.
The exact mechanisms of action are currently unmapped; researchers are still exploring this field of telomere biology.

Bitter Melon/ Bitter Gourd is great for diabetics!
Bitter Melon/ Bitter Gourd is great for diabetics because it helps to lower your blood sugar.
Among the several home remedies that have proved beneficial in controlling diabetes, perhaps the most important is the use of bitter gourd. It has lately been established that bitter gourd contains a hypoglycaemic or insulin-like principle, designated as 'plantin sulin', which has been found valuable in lowering the blood and urine sugar levels. It should, therefore, be included liberally in the diet of the diabetic. For better results, the diabetic should take the juice of about four or five bitter gourd every morning on an empty stomach.

Extinguishing ‘Hopes for Grace and Wisdom’ in China
Mass brainwashing campaign involves torture and the destruction of identity
By Matthew Robertson
Epoch Times Staff
http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/45353/
Now living in the United States, Mr. Chen, 38, is the former logistics manager for the Carlsberg Brewery in Beijing. From a family of musicians—his father was conductor of Beijing’s Central Philharmonic Orchestra and his mother was a flutist with that orchestra—he plays the bassoon. He is also a Falun Gong practitioner.
Because Mr. Chen practices Falun Gong, he was arrested in 2000 and sent to the Tuanhe Labor Camp in the suburbs of Beijing. He would endure 18 months imprisonment and torture there until his spirit was broken and he agreed to be “transformed.”
He said the police “kept up the torture until they destroyed every bit of my dignity, my innocence, and my belief. They forced me to become someone I despise, they sullied my character and soul, and they trampled on my hopes for grace and wisdom. They forced me into a state of regret, shame, and self-disappointment.”
What the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) did to Mr. Chen, it now intends to do to 75 percent of all of the known Falun Gong practitioners in China, according to documents available on local Communist Party websites and an internal Party document obtained by the Falun Dafa Information Center.
This new three-year campaign will cost billions and, depending on how efficiently practitioners are tracked down, will target millions or tens of millions of victims.
Reeducation Campaigns
One might say the spirit of the CCP that conquered China was formed through mass brainwashing. In the 1940s the CCP applied the methods of brainwashing (also called reeducation, transformation, forced conversion, thought reform, or ideological reprogramming) to its own cadres in the mountain redoubt of Yan’an, while the Anti-Japan war was being waged.
After the Party seized power the same methods were applied to swaths of the populace, notably intellectuals, “capitalist roaders,” and stubborn “bourgeois elements” of all stripes. As each new campaign would begin, new groups would be targeted for thought reform.

■The Psychology of Destroying Belief
Beginning in July 1999 as part of a systematic effort ordered by then-paramount leader Jiang Zemin to eradicate Falun Gong, the CCP turned its attention to “transforming” the thoughts of Falun Gong adherents.
Also known as Falun Dafa, Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline that consists of the practice of five meditative exercises and the study of moral teachings based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. According to Chinese officials speaking in early 1999, there were at that time between 70 and 100 million practitioners in China.
Study sessions were soon organized, and Party members were forced to renounce Falun Gong and pledge allegiance to the Party. These sessions took a similar format to the Revolutionary Colleges that were set up across China in the 1950s, meant for indoctrinating intellectuals.
The more urbane settings for indoctrination initially used for the Party members who practiced Falun Gong are the exception to the rule, however. More commonly, Falun Gong practitioners have been reeducated in prisons, labor camps, or custom-built facilities—and the focus is often on violent coercion, rather than mere political study or discussion, according to a review of accounts by practitioners published online.
Psychology of Destroying Identity
Jingduan Yang is medical director of the Tao Institute of Mind & Body Medicine in Philadelphia, and has conducted interviews with Falun Gong practitioners who became victims of the state’s campaign to reeducate them. He says the basic process of brainwashing relies on controlling the information and freedom of the target individual, and making their wellbeing and survival depend on their acceptance of that information.
“There are three main components to the brainwashing process,” Dr. Yang said in an interview. “First, total control of a person’s physical, financial, and social existence. Second, repetitive exposure to information or ideas they have to accept in order to survive. Third, violence or torture in the cases of people refusing the information.
“While experiencing physical torture and repetitive exposure to the same information, the instinct to survive often means prisoners begin accepting the ideas and information they are given,” he said. “Sometimes they even begin deeply believing in it.”
In bygone days the ideas and information referred to Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and a correct understanding of the “contradictions among the people,” among other communist watchwords.
Today, the brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners aims to convince them that their beliefs are evil, harmful, and selfish.
The old methods are being used, supplemented by lessons learned from experience and research. Since 1999 numerous grants have been awarded to Chinese social scientists and psychologists to learn how to make the process of transformation more efficient, according to Dr. Sun Yanjun, who until 2009 was a professor of psychology at Capital Normal University in Beijing.
The pressure to give in comes not only when practitioners are in captivity, but from society at large. Friends, family, and workplaces may all suffer financial and other consequences if the practitioner refuses to recant his or her faith.
In the past, class enemies were labeled as such based simply on their parents’ backgrounds, and were effectively “doomed,” Yang said.
Today, Falun Gong practitioners who renounce their faith are spared violence. But then, as a sign the transformation is real, the practitioners are expected to join forces with their brainwashers.
“Here, if you are willing to be transformed, they’ll further use you to transform others. They promise you a lot of benefits to be transformed, so you can have your job back, have your family visit, and even get decent food, this kind of thing,” Yang said.
“The scale of organizing this brainwashing process is huge,” Yang said.
Torture and Transformation
For those who don’t consent to transformation, the treatment given is brutal. The Falun Dafa Information Center has recently reported several deaths suffered by practitioners soon after being abducted and sent for brainwashing—perhaps a sign that the new campaign is intensifying the efforts directed at Falun Gong.
Mr. Chen was subjected to sleep deprivation, usually only being allowed to sleep for 2 to 4 hours. If he started to fall asleep, guards would kick or punch him. At one point, he was kept awake for 15 days straight.
He was subjected to several sessions of being shocked by multiple high-voltage electric batons. The batons burned his skin, his entire body would convulse, and the electricity affected his nervous system. Mr. Chen described being shocked by the batons as feeling like he was burning in a fire or being bitten by poisonous snakes.
The most dangerous torture he endured is called “pressing the bedboard.”
The guards enlisted 10 inmates to beat him, who did so until face was no longer recognizable. Mr. Chen’s legs and feet were then tied tightly and his arms were tied behind his back. His neck was then tied tightly to his legs so that he felt he was suffocating. He was then shoved under a wooden bedboard, and inmates stood on top of the bedboard.
Mr. Chen said he felt his bones were ready to break. After suffering this torture, he couldn’t walk for two weeks. Around the same time Chen suffered this, a practitioner named Lu Changjun was paralyzed by this torture.
“I will never be able to forget the agony,” Mr. Chen wrote. “I was covered with wounds, my back was injured, and I lay in a bed like a dead fish, unable to move. The only thing I heard was the agonizing screams from other Falun Gong practitioners who were being tortured. Tears streamed down my face. I thought even hell could not be worse.”
He eventually relented and wrote a transformation statement, with the police filming it, then forcing him to read it out.
“To this day I still regret that I did that,” Mr. Chen said in a recent interview. “I just wanted to keep that little area in my heart that’s mine, that’s me: this is what I think ... I wanted to keep that as a pure land in my heart, but to get their bonus they use any kind of method to take that little pure land from your heart. That is what they call reeducation, and what we call brainwashing.”
