By Wu Baozhang
When I first heard the news of the feud between Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai, a famous phrase by Lin Biao came to my mind. Lin said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is a “meat grinder.”
Lin Biao was a major Chinese Communist military leader and Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party under Mao Zedong. Lin was already confirmed as Mao’s successor, but allegedly masterminded the famous 571armed uprising against Mao in 1971. He died in a suspicious 1971 plane crash as he attempted to flee from China and was later condemned as a traitor and counterrevolutionary.
Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai were also once close allies, but now they are deadly enemies, enmeshed in a life and death battle that is characteristic of the CCP’s culture of violence and struggle.
China’s rapid economic development of the last three decades covers up two historical facts of CCP rule: One is the usurpation of leadership through violent struggle; the other is that good people have continuously been aggrieved.
The Wang-Bo scandal has exposed to the world the practice of leadership usurpation in the CCP. People can see clearly that democracy has not germinated in China. The regime of the CCP still remains in the style of the 18th century absolute monarchy. The only difference is the Politburo Committee substitutes for the court. It is a brutal totalitarian rule under the name of “People’s Republic.”
I think as long as the present political system in China continues, this leadership usurpation will also continue.
Good People Victimized
The other fact the Communist regime has tried to conceal with the booming economic growth is the continuing history of good people being aggrieved.
During the last two decades good people who became victims of state oppression included the students and citizens slaughtered in 1989 for their fight for democracy.
There are also the Falun Gongpractitioners, who believe in truthfulness, compassion and tolerance, cultivating body and mind, but have been unprecedentedly and brutally suppressed.
Other victimized people are the Catholics, who are loyal to the Pope and don’t want to be the CCP’s tools; petitioners who are deprived of land and home, who expect Party officials to give them a hand; lawyers, journalists, and artists, who lose their freedom for helping the weak; private entrepreneurs who have lost their families and gone into exile because of abuse from corrupt officials. The list of victims created by the CCP’s tyranny goes on.
After the Wang-Bo scandal broke open, sources stated that Premier Wen Jiabao proposed the regime deal with and make amends for the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre and the Falun Gong persecution.
Falun Gong Resistance
Of all the CCP’s victims of the last three decades, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is the most severe, and their resistance is also the most tenacious. In my opinion, the Falun Gong issue has become the core of China’s political problems.
Falun Gong has been wronged for 12 years. There has never been any other group suffering such violent persecution, torture, brainwashing, and even organ harvesting. The deaths of more than 3,000 practitioners are verified.
There has also never been any other group of victims persecuted under the CCP’s tyranny that was able to launch a lasting, tenacious, and peaceful protest under their own beliefs and principles.
In order to expose the facts of the CCP’s persecution, Falun Gong practitioners established three independent media (The Epoch Times, New Tang Dynasty TV, and Sound of Hope Radio).
The book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, an editorial series published by The Epoch Times has filled in the blanks of Chinese Communist history for the Chinese people who have been in a fog of media control and misinformation for decades.
There has also never been any other group of victims persecuted under the CCP’s tyranny that dared to resort to the international community, sued the dictators overseas, and garnered strong international support.
There has never been any other group that was able to successfully promote traditional Chinese culture. Falun Gong practitioners have promoted Shen Yun Performing Arts under such difficult conditions.
There has never been any group of victims persecuted under the CCP’s tyranny, who developed so prosperously overseas. We can see Falun Gong practitioners in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, India, North America, Europe, and many other places in the world.
Meanwhile, the huge tide of “quitting the CCP” is impacting China, which suggests that the revival of the Chinese nation is near.
CCP Trying to Avoid Collapse
I don’t think that China’s moving into the mainstream of democracy and freedom in the world is just around the corner. But I try to think positively, and have been asking myself repeatedly whether it is possible for the CCP to “pass a resolution regarding certain historical issues” and “vindicate miscarriages of justice” since the opening up and the reform, as was recently proposed by Premier Wen Jiabao.
I can vaguely see that it is the only prospect. The CCP might choose this way to avoid collapse. However, people are bound to think that if it cannot solve problems fundamentally within the system, how can it avoid the historical issue of good people being aggrieved in the future?
Whatever the outcome of the leadership usurpation in China will be, I am afraid it will not easily lead to an immediate change of the political system in China. The nature of the Communist regime has not been changed, although the soil of Chinese society has undergone a fundamental change. It is exactly among the changed and the unchanged, that a democratic and free China is going to be born in the future.
