European politicians say those in the free world have an obligation to support those suppressed in places like China.
On Wednesday evening, a private screening of a documentary on two former Chinese prisoners of conscience aired to members of the European Parliament, European Union and NGO representatives.
One Estonian politician helped organized the screening of “Free China: The Courage to Believe.” For him, the stories of Jennifer Zeng and Charles Lee were something he could relate to.

The NTD co-produced documentary focused on the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. It’s a spiritual practice based on gentle exercises and the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.
Jennifer Zeng and Charles Lee both served time in China’s labor camps, for refusing to give up their belief in Falun Gong. They were subjected to torture, brainwashing, and were turned into slave labor.

Jennifer Zeng and the documentary’s producer Kean Wong attended the screening. She says it’s still difficult to watch her own journey, but says she will continue to speak out until the Chinese regime frees all those illegally detained.

“I think Jennifer, especially, has been so convincing, so deep emotion contained and disciplined. You can feel through her, how touching, how serious the situation really is.”
“Free China” was co-produced with acclaimed director Michael Perlman. The award-winning documentary will be released to theaters on June 4th.
