(Minghui.org) Practitioners Li Yuzhen from Jiaozhou City and Yang Zongquan from Wendeng City, both in Shandong Province, were arrested by police officers from the Beiguan Police Station in Jiaozhou City in March 2011. Both were later sentenced to prison terms.
The Shandong Provincial Prison refused to admit the practitioners three times, out of concern for their persecution-induced physical conditions. The Jiaozhou City Detention Center has held them since then, for over two years. Their family members have requested that the detention center release them so that they may seek medical treatment, but their requests were rejected.

Detention Center Warden Discloses Motive for the Center’s Crimes
March 6, 2013, was a visitation day at the Jiaozhou City Detention Center, and both Mr. Li’s and Mr. Yang’s families went to visit them. They met with warden Jiang and requested that he release the practitioners. Jiang made excuses, saying, “What I say does not matter.” The families requested that he ask whoever is in charge. Jiang lied by saying, “I have asked him many times, and it was of no use.”
The family asked, “The prison will not take them, so why can’t you release them?” Jiang replied, “They can only be released if they do not practice Falun Gong. Otherwise they cannot be released.”
The family members asked the warden if the practitioners could be released in order to receive medical treatment, but Jiang said that they did not meet the requirements. When asked about the requirements, the warden said, “I let a 30-year-old man go recently. He had a liver problem and was dying. I figured that he would not last more than a few days if I released him, so I let him go.”
The families were appalled. Wasn’t the warden trying to kill the practitioners? How could this happen in a civilized society?
Jiang then said, “The prison called and wants us to take Li Yuzhen there.” The family members immediately countered his lies, “We have asked the prison. They said that you have begged them with gifts to take Mr. Li and Mr. Yang, but they rejected them because their physical conditions are too poor. You will be punished by heaven for the way you persecute Falun Gong practitioners.”
Secret Illegal Trials in the Detention Center
Mr. Li is in his seventies, and a war veteran. After retiring from the Jiaozhou City Charcoal Factory, he began to cultivate Falun Gong. He follows the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” to improve his character, and always look inward when facing conflicts. His health improved greatly after he began cultivating, and all of his illnesses disappeared.
Mr. Li was arrested by police officers from the Beiguan Police Station on March 23, 2011, as he was telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Personnel from the Domestic Security Team and the 610 Office tortured and interrogated him. The court later illegally sentenced him to three years in prison with no corroborating evidence.
Mr. Yang, in his fifties, previously had a variety of illnesses. After he began cultivating Falun Gong, his heath improved a great deal, and he became completely healthy.
Three years ago, Mr. Yang was sentenced to three years of forced labor by agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Wendeng City. On March 29, 2011, he was sentenced to four years in prison by the Jiaozhou City Court. While Mr. Yang was being held in the detention center, he was beaten, tortured, cuffed and shackled, and forced to perform labor for over a month. Within a few months, after having been a healthy man previously, he developed serious heart problems.
In order to keep their actions unknown to the public, the Jiaozhou City Court held secret trials for Mr. Li and Mr. Yang without even informing their families or their lawyers from Beijing. Their so-called “open trials” were handled entirely behind closed doors by lead Judge Kuang Defu, Judge Zhou Yan, and assistant Judge Yu Lingjuan. All of their so-called evidence had been fabricated.
Mr. Li was sentenced to three years in prison, and Mr. Yang to four. The court did not even show the verdict document to Mr. Yang’s family. The Jiaozhou Court ignored morality and ethics, and disregarded the law of the nation, essentially voiding the law.
Prison Rejects Practitioners Three Times, but Detention Center Keeps Them
Under the direction of the Jiaozhou City Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the 610 Office, police officers attempted three times to take Mr. Li and Mr. Yang to the Shandong Provincial Prison in Jinan City. But because they had been severely tortured, and as a result being very weak, the prison rejected the practitioners all three times in order to avoid being held responsible for their poor physical conditions.
Mr. Yang’s sister went to the Jiaozhou City Detention Center around January 20, 2012, and requested that the center release Mr. Yang. Warden Jiang shoved her out of the office after she had said only a few words. When Mr. Yang’s family members followed the warden to the cafeteria, Jiang also shoved them out, pushing one of them to the ground, and he then called the guards to remove them.
Because of his advanced age and the torture he had been subjected to, Mr. Li passed out during a physical examination. Despite his frail condition, the detention center still refused to release him. Jiang told his family members, “I will call you when he dies, but it is not my fault if he does.”
Mr. Li and Mr. Yang are still being held in the Jiaozhou City Detention Center, and their families are still trying to rescue them.
