Wang Zhiyuan was a physician, but in 1983, he was diagnosed with spinal muscular dystrophy – an incurable disease, which is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the world’s five major terminal illness. Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare neuromuscular disorder characterised by loss of motor neurons and progressive muscle wasting, often leading to early death.
As a doctor, he has treated countless patients, but when faced with his own diseases, he was at a loss. He consulted numerous Chinese and Western doctors, in the vain hope that he might recover.
