(Minghui.org) Dr. Wang Yuanfu, a Taiwanese physician, was once perplexed by various challenges in the medical field after he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Chung Shan Medical University and started working in healthcare. “A patient with high blood pressure needs to take medicines lifelong while someone with insomnia always requires pills to fall asleep,” he recalled. “To me, these incurable problems must have deeper reasons behind them, which our medical science has yet to discover.”
Dr. Wang’s quest to find an answer led him to move to Canada in 1997 to pursue an M.D. degree in Western medicine. However, after discovering Falun Dafa in 2001, he became so interested in the wisdom of traditional Chinese culture that he instead went to mainland China to obtain an M.D. degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in 2006.
Below is Dr. Wang’s journey.
A Book of Wisdom
Dr. Wang is a former chief physician of Internal Medicine and Chinese Medicine at Tainan Hospital in Taiwan. He later became director of the Wang Yuanfu Clinic and Changxin Clinic. He is currently an internal physician at the Zhenxing Clinic.
In addition, Dr. Wang was president of the Pa-Te Yang Te Rotary Club (2011 – 2012), founding president of the Zhongli Star Rotary Club, and regional director for District 3501 of Rotary International. Furthermore, he received “Taoyuan Social Contribution Award” (2011), became Taoyuan City advisor (2011 – 2012), and was awarded a Ministry of Education Silver Medal (2012). He also wrote a book titled Physical and Mental Health – a healthy method without taking medicine and spending money.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Chung Shan Medical University in 1986, Dr. Wang became a medical worker. Based on his experience, he found that many medical conditions, such as high blood pressure or insomnia, could only be managed but not cured, thus requiring lifelong medication and/or other treatments.
He moved to Canada in 1997 and stayed there for three years planning to pursue an MD degree in Western medicine. During that time, however, he became interested in qigong because he noted that many phenomena were beyond the explanation of modern science but were nonetheless real.
In 2001, Dr. Wang came across Falun Dafa, a meditation system based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He experienced many phenomena described in Zhuan Falun, the main teachings of Falun Dafa, including the celestial eye, energy in the palm, and rotation of Falun in the lower abdomen. Impressed by what he’d experienced, he went to mainland China and obtained an MD degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in 2006. He then returned to Taiwan to practice medicine.
Dr. Wang found the book Zhuan Falun to be very profound. He said, “This book is from Heaven!”
He also noted that he was able to quickly grasp the essence of Chinese medicine because of what he learned in Zhuan Falun. For example, the book said that many ancient Chinese medicine doctors had supernormal abilities due to their spiritual practices. This understanding enlightened Dr. Wang and gave him wisdom.
In the end, he was able to finish his MD thesis, over 300,000 words in length, in six months. “Without reading Zhuan Falun, I would not have been able to complete it on time and explain things so clearly,” he said.
Mind and Body
The relationship between mind and body was well understood in ancient times. Huangdi Neijing (Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor), for example, talked about “Calming down with nothingness, follow the true qi, and keep the spirit within.” That is, one should take fame and fortune lightly, reduce desires, and pay attention to morality.
This also shows that Chinese medicine is different from Western medicine, Dr. Wang explained. More specifically, Chinese medicine focuses on balanced nutrition, qi (energy circulation) in the body, and moral values. The later two do not cost money but are vital for one’s health.
Based on his experience, Dr. Wang believes that Falun Dafa is superior to other qigong systems, and it benefits both mind and body. “The principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are critical for our morality, spirit, and health,” he added.
Becoming a Better Person
By following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, Dr. Wang is striving to be a good person wherever he is. Even when he is taken advantage of by others, he does not argue because he always remembers that he is a practitioner.
“Falun Dafa helps me to look at things from a different angle,” he explained. “When there are conflicts or others have opinions different from yours, you should not insist on your own opinion.”
Dr. Wang’s entire family practices Falun Dafa. In the past, he and his wife sometimes had arguments, but that has become history. Following in his father’s footstep, Dr. Wang’s son also became a doctor. “Because he is also a Dafa practitioner, I do not worry about whether he might possibly turn out badly in this chaotic society,” he said.
The practice has also relieved pressure and helped him to gain wisdom. “When acting according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, you will find many things become easier with fewer problems,” he commented.
Dr. Wang’s friends and relatives also saw the positive changes in him. “They often told me Falun Dafa is great,” he said.
Helping the Community
In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Wang also looked for opportunities to share the benefits of Falun Dafa with groups in the local community. He also gives lectures at schools, government agencies, organizations, and overseas venues to talk about his experience.
“Falun Dafa not only makes practitioners better citizens, but also helps build a more peaceful and safer society,” he said.
“Life can be a mystery because we do not know where we came from and where we will go upon death,” Dr. Wang said. “But Falun Dafa answers that question and leads us to a better future.”

Editor’s Note: Dear readers, do you know that Falun Dafa, originally from China, is currently practiced by people in over 100 countries? But in China, since Jul. 20, 1999, Falun Gong is defamed, slandered and persecuted due to the Chinese Communist Party’s fear of Falun Gong’s rapidly growing popularity. Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology.
