‘I think the CCP has absolutely no conscience!’
The well-known human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng has represented a variety of “sensitive” cases in China, including ones involving Falun Gong. He also published two open letters to China’s President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, and the National People’s Congress, publicly urging the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to end the persecution of Falun Gong.
From a legal perspective, all forms of punishments metted out to Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP, are completely illegal, and as such, violate the basic principles of common law and the spirit of democracy. As a result of defending Falun Gong practitioners in court, Gao Zhisheng was tortured at the bidding of Zhou Yongkang, the secretary of the Central Political and Legislative Committee.
The article, “Dark Nights, Black Hoods, and Gang’s Kidnapping,” written in 2009, revealed the various tortures that Gao Zhisheng was subjected to at the hands of Chinese police, during his illegal imprisonment in 2007. Brutal beatings, blowing cigarette smoke in his eyes, electrocuting his genitals, and inserting toothpicks into his genitals, were a few of the 12 torture methods he experienced.
The article also mentioned that the police who tortured Gao Zhisheng admitted that the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners was indeed true. Furthermore, the 12 torture methods that Gao was subjected to, were actually developed while torturing Falun Gong practitioners.
The CCP later extended its persecution of Gao Zhisheng to include his wife, daughter, and son. However, Gao’s wife, Geng He, managed to escape to Thailand with their children on January 9, 2009. After overcoming hardships and risks, and through the kind assistance of several close friends, they finally arrived in the United States on March 12, 2009.
Recently, a Kanzhongguo news reporter interviewed Geng Ge, Gao Zhisheng’s daughter. She talked in detail about the cruel persecution her family suffered in mainland China and urged the world’s media to continue to pay close attention to those who are still being persecuted by the CCP.
Geng Ge explained: “My brother, Tianyu, is much younger than I. He currently experiences post-traumatic stress disorder, due to being persecuted. He used to be very open-minded, but since the Chinese police stalked him and didn’t allow other children to play with him, he is now autistic.
“His teacher wrote a letter to my mother a fortnight ago, describing Tianyu as fragile and seemingly suffering from psychological trauma. She hopes that we would consider taking him to see a psychiatrist.
“In China, my brother once got lost. It was already dark and my mother went out to look for him. She was clearly distressed. The police, however, detained my mother.
“This kind of political system—I think the CCP has absolutely no conscience!”
In February, 300 villagers in Zhouguantun Village in Hebei Province, China signed a petition using their thumbprints. They were calling for the release of Falun Gong practitioner Wang Xiaodong, who was arrested by the local Political and Legislative Committee. The incident exposed the fact that the Political and Legislative Committee persecutes Falun Gong, and that the CCP’s conduct goes against the will and opinions of many.
Geng Ge talked about her view of the Wang Xiaodong incident, saying: “I think that my father’s actions have adequately expressed what we wanted to say in our hearts. I think that in the beginning, we were afraid of the government, and the situation was vague.
“However, the petition of 300 villagers demanding the release of Falun Gong practitioner Wang Xiaodong made me very happy. This incident meant that people, including those from remote villages in China, began to pursue the freedom that they desire. This is very good, and also proves that Dafa practitioners have been making every effort to tell the truth for many years. I am very happy and also support these villagers’ righteous movements.
She continued, “I hope that the Chinese people awaken as soon as possible and realize the truth. In our hearts, we wonder who is to blame for the present situation in China. Let us think from one perspective. Do Chinese officials and soldiers number more than the Chinese people? Not at all! If all the Chinese people stood up together, I believe those accountable will be made known.
“Of course, time and a process are required for us [citizens] to be aware of this, or to be willing to stand up for what we believe. I am very pleased that we have slowly come to realize this. Besides, most people have been willing to gradually do something, and know in their hearts to pursue human rights and freedom.
“I think that government officials need to look into their own conscience. My brother, a two or three-year-old child back then, has no father by his side. I was still in my teens, at that time, and still have a lot to share from my heart. I still would like to consult with my father on many issues, but it is all in vain.
“My mother, a woman in her prime [around 35 years old], needs her husband by her side, to support and live with, but all of that is in vain, too.
“I would like to ask these CCP officials to think about how their children and spouses would feel if they were put in similar circumstances as ours—before loosing their conscience and treating others badly. I hope these government officials can do something good. Many people are detained simply because they exercised their right to express themselves. This is just my small request.
“There is something I would also like to mention to the medias and to those who are concerned about my father. There was a huge media coverage of Uncle Chen Guancheng’s recent arrival to the United States. I am very happy that he obtained his freedom.
“The success of Chen Guangcheng’s freedom was attributed to the help he received from the U.S. government and numerous media reports. If we can take this as an example of how we can save more people, then our goal will gradually be achieved. I hope that the medias keep paying close attention to those who are still being persecuted by the CCP, and I also hope that we can continue to be concerned about my father.
She concluded, “I understand that news is only news for a short time, then people naturally become indifferent to it. However, as a daughter, I long to see my father, and hope that my family can be reunited someday. In addition, I really hope that we can make every effort to strive for democracy in China, and rescue all those good people who dare to speak up for civilians and the democratization of China.”
