Since February 2009, 92 Tibetans have protested Chinese rule by setting themselves on fire. But amid increasing restrictions from Chinese authorities, the number of these self-immolations has increased dramatically in recent months, with 37 people self-immolating in just October and November. What’s the reason behind the sharp spike in these protests? What has been the Chinese leadership’s response? And is there anything that people outside China can do?
