The book “State Organs: Transplant Abuse in China” was published in July with contributions from a dozen specialists in the field of organ transplantation. The book, co-edited by Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas and Dr. Torsten Trey, made it to the top bestseller list two weeks ago in Winnipeg Canada.

“Local people in Winnipeg are very interested Matas’ book. During the book signing evening, the entire bookstore was full of people in the signing area, with some even standing outside. Many people joined the event and all the people in Winnipeg know of the organ harvesting atrocities.”
Zhang said many people were shocked that such atrocities could be occurring in China, which many see as a rising power.
The book examines the sources of organs for China’s booming transplant industry. Chinese authorities have stated that the main source is from prisoners on death row. But authors in “State Organs” point out that there is ample evidence to suggest otherwise.
The book concludes that a large number of organs used in transplant in China come from prisoners of conscience, specifically practitioners of Falun Gong, who disappeared by the hundreds of thousands into the communist regime’s system of prisons and labor camps. David Matas estimated that of the 10,000 organ transplants carried out in China every year, 8,000 of them were sourced from live Falun Gong practitioners.
Dr. Torsten Trey, who is also the Executive Director of the medical group Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting, said state institutions, like the courts and military hospitals, are directly involved in the killings.
