Dr. Wen Dao, a fellow at the Institute for Humanities Research, University of California, calls on all Chinese people to stand with Falun Gong practitioners and demand that the Chinese government stop the persecution.
For 13 years, former leader Jiang Zemin and other communist officials rampantly arrested, tortured, and killed many practitioners due to fear of the popularity of the spiritual practice, but Dr. Wen says even those who belong to the lowest ranks of society in terms of political power will not tolerate such brutality anymore. He believes that communist revolutions’ and government emphasis on rapid economic development has caused the Chinese society to suffer a great loss of moral values.
Now Chinese people see hope for recovery of moral values since villagers in the rural parts of Hebei Province, China—called the “Brave 300”— petitioned the government for the release of a persecuted fellow villager and Falun Gong practitioner, Wang Xiaodong.
The “Brave 300” have inspired similar acts in China.
“The Chinese people have awakened to the issue of Falun Gong and have realized the importance of supporting justice and fighting for human rights,” said Cheng Weimin, head of the Southeast Asian branch of the Chinese Democratic Party.
Liang Shiwei, a survivor of the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, pointed out that repeated suppression of people will only lead the communist party to collapse. “For those officials, they should think of the day they need to pay for their crimes committed against people. They should reflect. All Chinese officials, no matter those of lower ranks or the top leaders, should reflect on this,” said Liang.
“Those who practice Falun Gong practice the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, and other people can all embrace such values,” said An Shaorong, a resident of Guizhou City. “What the government has done to them is illegal.”
Since the petition, the local court has returned the lawsuit against Wang Xiaodong to the public security bureau that arrested and persecuted him and his family.
