(Minghui.org) Mr. Tu Teng, whose original name is Tu Songshan, is the president of China Laureate Poetry Society. He was illegally arrested for speaking to people about Falun Gong at a cafe near Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, on August 13, 2012. He is being held at the Beilin District Detention Center in Xi’an. His family has not been allowed to visit him.
Mr. Tu is a poet, esthetician, and writer. He was born in 1978 in Henan Province and lived in Weiyang District, Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, prior to his arrest. He founded China Laureate Poetry Society in 2007 with the goal of conducting cultural research, public education, academic exchanges, and producing publications. He has organized 10 poetry seminars and many other writing seminars in Xi’an. Devoted to culture-related public services, he is highly respected in Xi’an’s art and academic communities.
Mr. Tu read many Buddhist, Taoist, and Christian books when he was young, seeking to find the true meaning of life, but to no avail. He fortuitously came upon Mr. Li Hongzhi’s lecture, Teaching the Fa at the Discussion on Writing Music and Creating Fine Art, in 2009 and was completely blown away. That night he found Mr. Li Hongzhi’s book Zhuan Falun, Falun Gong’s main text, and read it from cover to cover. He knew immediately that Falun Gong is what he had been searching for. He then began practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Tu quit smoking, an addiction that he had for more than 10 years, on the day he started practicing Falun Gong. He also quit many other bad habits as he continued to practice. He and his family have reaped the benefits of his practice of Falun Gong. However, Mr. Tu has also been persecuted for his belief by the Chinese communist regime.
Mr. Tu and another Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Li Xiaohui, were arrested by the Domestic Security Division of the Beilin District Police Department when they spoke to people about Falun Gong on August 13, 2012. The police confiscated two notebook computers, two mobile phones, one portable disk, and other personal belongings. The arrest was carried out shortly after Mr. Tu’s fiancée had called him around 7:30 p.m. Domestic Security Division agents broke into Mr. Tu’s home around 8:30 p.m. and ransacked it. When his fiancée asked to see the search warrant, the agents showed her a blank warrant showing only two Xi’an City Police Department stamps.
From her conversation with the agents, Mr. Tu’s fiancée learned that they had planned to arrest Mr. Tu in June 2012, but decided to wait until he completed an art event because they did not want to ignite public discontent in the art world. The Domestic Security Division agents also arrested Mr. Tu’s fiancée, but she was released the next day.
Mr. Tu’s family received a phone call from officer Liu Junping from the Changlefang Police Station in Xi’an City on August 15, 2012, informing them that Mr. Tu was in police custody. Liu told them to come to the police station to sign off on the arrest document but refused to disclose the reason for the arrest.
Mr. Tu’s fiancée asked Liu to see the arrest warrant and the reason for the arrest on August 17, but Liu told her that the arrest document had been filed away.
On the afternoon of August 19, Mr. Tu’s fiancée went to the Beilin District Detention Center to deliver fresh clothes for Mr. Tu. However, she was not allowed to see Mr. Tu and someone else signed the receipt for the items.
Two other Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Li Xiaohui and Mr. Xie Jing, remain incarcerated in the Beilin District Detention Center along with Mr. Tu. Their families have not been allowed to visit them.
