376 Villagers Cosigned a Petition Letter that Panicked Zhou Yongkang
Zhou Yongkang, the party’s former Sectary of Politics
and Law Committee, is said to be under investigation,
and a lot of wrongs related to Zhou Yongkang have been exposed.
A petition letter carrying public opinion, co-signed by 376 villagers,
has risen to the surface once more. The content of the letter
has put Zhou Yongkang in a panic.
Zhou even gave the order to investigate each villager.
This is the “petition letter event”
that once gained a lot of media attention.
Xu Dawei, Falun Gong practitioner from Fushun City, Liaoning,
was kidnapped in 2001 for his clarifying the truth about Falun Gong.
Because of his persistence in his belief,
Xu has been jailed and severely tortured in Dabei, Lingyuan No.1,
Fushun No.2, and Panyang Dongling Prisons.
When Xu Dawei was released in February 2009,
he had been persecuted so severely that his family
couldn’t even recognize him.
Chi Lihua, Xu Dawei’s wife and also a Falun Gong practitioner,
“My family and I came to pick him up on the day he was released.
When I saw him, I was so shocked. I couldn’t even believe my own eyes.
Xu Dawei looked totally different.
He was so skinny and his hair was completely grey.
Then I asked why my husband had turned like this.
No one replied. When I gave him food, he couldn’t even eat any.
Sometimes his mind was clear and sometimes he was muddle-headed.”
In addition, Xu’s family also found a lot of marks from
electric shocks and crusted scars on his body.
There were even prints of rope on his neck.
Xu Dawei left forever his beloved and just united family,
which he had missed for 8 years, when he was only 36 years old.
Xu died from organ failure only 13 days
after he got back home from prison.
Chi Lihua: “On the second day when Xu Dawei was sent to hospital,
the doctor tried to take some blood from him
but he couldn’t get any out of him.
When they checked his organs, they found that none of his organs
were working at all including respiratory organs.
Then after he had been back home for only 13 days, he left the world. ”
Xu Dawei’s wife (Chi Lihua) learned from the prisoners
that were jailed together with her husband
that Xu Dawei had been brutally tortured in prison,
especially in Panyang Dongling Prison.
Xu lost consciousness many times from various tortures.
Even his fellow prisoners shed tears of compassion for him.
Chi Lihua: “When his mind was clear, he told me he was beaten
and sometimes was fed with medicines that damaged his nervous system.
He was even given poisonous injections.
My husband suffered from various brutal tortures.
They pricked his fingers with bamboo and metal needles.
His fellow prisoners told me this.
They tied his limbs onto an iron bed and he couldn’t move even a little bit.
My husband also told me he was beaten so hard
that he lost consciousness many times. ”
Chi Lihua told the reporters that Xu Dawei’s body cracked
before he left the prison.
The doctor even said that it was a miracle that Xu lived
till he was sent to hospital.
But Chi Lihua knows that it was the spiritual power of getting back
together with his family that had made her husband keep going
until the day he was released.
When Xu Dawei was thrown into prison, his wife had just got pregnant.
In the past 8 years, Xu Dawei only saw his daughter once in prison.
It was the second time and also the last time that he saw
his daughter before he left the world forever.
NTDTV Reporter: “Do you still remember how your dad looked
when you saw him in prison? Do you still have any impression?”
Daughter of Xu Dawei: “I have some impression.
I remember when I was little, my dad wanted to hug me,
but I didn’t allow him to.”
Chi Lihua: “That’s when we visited him in Dongling Prison.”
Reporter:”Do know you how your dad passed away?”
Daughter of Xu Huawei: “I know.”
Reporter: “Do you have any thought about it?”
Daughter of Xu Dawei: “I wish China’s police would stop
persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners.
Evildoers are bound to be punished.”
Reporter:”Do you miss your father then?”
Daughter of Xu Dawei: “Of course. I’m so jealous
when I see all kids who have fathers.”
After Xu Dawei was persecuted to death,
Chi Lihua went to various judicial units and petition departments
to ask for an explanation of her husband’s death.
But, all she got were prevarications, denials and even threats.
At the end of 2009, in order to redress the injustice,
villagers of Yingemen village (Xu Dawei’s hometown), Qingyuan County,
collected 376 signatures after they learned Xu Dawei
was persecuted to death.
This action has caused panic among the party’s authorities.
Based on insider information from the police system,
at the time, Zhou Yongkang,
Secretary of the Party’s Politics and Law Committee
gave the order to thoroughly investigate the “signature event”.
On April 7, 2010, Head of Qingyuan County Judicial Bureau and
head of the county police station went to Yingemen village
in person to do the investigation.
However,, they weren’t investigating the truth
about how Xu Dawei had been persecuted to death,
but were investigating the villagers who signed the petition letter.
They asked many questions from door to door.
Among them are “who originated the petition?”,
“why did you sign the petition letter?”,
“if the petition is allowed, are you going”.
Some commentators pointed out that it showed
Zhou Yongkang were extremely terrified deep in his heart.
A co-signed petition letter even aroused a thorough investigation.
The petition letter carries public opinion with it.
It demonstrates people’s positive attitude towards Falun Gong,
which is exactly what the party fears..

Why Some Chinese Police Have Change of Heart About Falun Gong Persecution

In another report, a Falun Gong practitioner in Chongqing City said he visited a police station and overheard a man reporting on his neighbor for practicing Falun Gong.

Instead of rewarding the man, the police chief became annoyed with him, saying: “His practice has nothing to do with you; the more people that practice, the better!”

After 14 years of being subjected to relentless brutality, including unlawful incarceration, torture, and state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting, Falun Gong practitioners in China have lately reported a softening attitude by some police toward the spiritual movement.
Since 1999, when former regime leader Jiang Zemin gave orders to exterminate the vastly popular meditation and exercise practice, Falun Gong practitioners around the globe have maintained their peaceful protests to resist the persecution and inform the public of the facts.
Millions of people in many countries have signed petitions to end the persecution of Falun Gong, and several governments have also issued proclamations to that effect. In China, thousands of people in China have put their names and thumbprints on dozens of petitions to free individual practitioners from detention.
According to some China analysts, the current Chinese leaders are feeling pressure to deal with the persecution, however, they don’t want to deal with it openly as it would implicate the entire Communist Party and might collapse the regime. According to these analysts, the current leaders intend to use Xi’s anti-corruption campaign to take down the top officials responsible for carrying out the persecution and charge them with corruption instead of genocide and organ pillaging from tens of thousands of captive Falun Gong prisoners.
The recent arrests of Li Dongsheng and Zhou Yongkong, both high-level officials responsible for the campaign against Falun Gong, bear out the validity of this opinion.

Under Arrest

On the evening of Dec. 20, 2013, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Central Commission for Discipline announced that Li Dongsheng, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Director of the Central 610 Office, was under investigation for “serious violations of the law,” an apparent reference to corruption.
The “610 Office” is the highest-level organization within the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) the communist regime under Jiang Zemin created to persecute Falun Gong. While Li’s position as head of the 610 Office has always been kept semi-secret, in the announcement of his investigation it was mentioned as his first official title, which can be seen as a hint that the persecution of Falun Gong, not graft, is central to Li’s probe.
Li Dongsheng has close ties to Zhou Yongkang, the former Secretary of the PLAC, China’s massive security apparatus. Known as China’s security csar, Zhou Yongkang was also a Politburo Standing Committee member before his retirement in 2012 and was one of the most powerful men in China as well as one of the highest-level officials responsible for the campaign against Falun Gong.
Zhou is also under investigation. Though not yet officially confirmed, his arrest has been confirmed by multiple sources, including Reuters.
Zhou and Li, among others, were personally chosen by Jiang Zemin to carry out his genocidal campaign against Falun Gong. Hundreds of officials and associates of the trio have allegedly been removed from their positions during the past 18 months and are under investigation.
These arrests are said to have caused panic among Jiang Zemin’s faction and in the legal, judicial, and police systems. Police and other security officers now fear that they too may be held accountable for crimes they committed against Falun Gong practitioners.

Police: ‘We Were Wrong’

According to reports on Minghui.org, a website maintained by Falun Gong practitioners to document the persecution, many policemen have realized that they should no longer follow orders to persecute Falun Gong.
Many Falun Gong practitioners, both inside and outside of China, make phone calls to Chinese law enforcement officials, explaining the facts to them and warning them of the consequences of participating in the persecution.
According to one report, in early January, a practitioner by the name of Benny made a call to a police station in China. Initially the officers didn’t want to listen to her. But after she told them that Li Dongsheng had beenformally detained and was under investigation, they then listened. They also took down the number for the New York based World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, saying they would report other officers who had committed crimes against Falun Gong in order to atone for their own misdeeds.
Another practitioner, who called a policeman in China, was badly berated by him. But later the policeman gave the practitioner his private number. Practitioner Benny called him back, and this time the policeman was very polite. He said: “Do you know why I cursed at your friend? It is because my [other] phone is tapped and I needed to protect myself. I know that your friend called to help me and that he is a very nice person. The things he said to me are true, the Chinese CCP always finds scapegoats for the crimes it committed in its past movements.”
This policeman then promised he would protect Falun Gong practitioners he comes across.
On Jan. 17, two Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong Province distributed pamphlets on the street and encouraged people to withdraw from the CCP. Two policemen walked up to the practitioners, which generally means that they would be arrested. One of the policemen said, “Falun Gong distributing flyers.” The policemen stared at the practitioners for a moment, then looked at each other with a smile and just walked away.
A 610 Office staff member in Chongqing City came to Shabao Woman’s Forced Labor Camp to pick up released Falun Gong practitioners. He was heard saying: “We are so wrong persecuting Falun Gong. I can never understand the CCP’s policy-making.”
A Falun Gong practitioner mailed a letter with facts about the persecution to the head of a county 610 Office. After reading the letter, the 610 Office head quit his job.
A man who stated that he has been in the police force for over 20 years quit the CCP using an alias on the Epoch Times website. He said very bad things have happened to many policemen he knew who participated in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He would not sell his life to the CCP and would stop harassing Falun Gong practitioners. He also advised his wife and child to never join the CCP or its affiliated groups.

Hunger Strike and Thousands of Thumbprints Gain Prisoner’s Release

Nearly 9,000 Chinese citizens demanded, and secured, the release of a Falun Gong practitioner

By , Epoch Times | February 4, 2014
Hua Lianyou, a Falun Gong practitioner in Tianjin City of China, was released from prison on Jan. 28 after 617 of a hunger strike. He had been sentenced to seven years in prison for practicing and sharing information about Falun Gong. (Minghui.org)
A total of 8,855 signatures from around Tianjin, China, urged the release of Falun Gong practitioner Hua Lianyou. (Minghui.org)
Hua Lianyou only ended up serving a few months of his seven-year prison sentence in Binhai Prison, in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, before he was sent home—on a stretcher.
The efforts of friends and family, and the signatures and red-ink thumbprints of nearly 9,000 Chinese villagers who were outraged at his case had secured Hua’s release.
The official backdown on Hua’s case in the face of such pressure comes as the persecution against the peaceful spiritual practice stretches into its 14th year, and is another sign that public opposition, and faltering political will in the face of continued staunch resistance, are combining to stifle the violent campaign.

Lock Up

Hua was arrested by police in Tianjin on April 24, 2012, because he was practicing the Falun Gong exercises—slow-motion movements that look a bit like tai chi—in public, and distributing information about the practice.
One month later he embarked on a hunger strike in protest. That hunger strike was said to have lasted an extraordinary 600 days, according to Minghui.org, a main Falun Gong website that carried the news of Hua’s release.
Hua was put through a show trial in September of last year and summarily convicted of “using an evil religious organization to undermine the law.” The trial was secretly held in a prison hospital, while Hua was lying in bed. He was sentenced to prison for seven years.
The legal basis of the sentence was fiercely disputed by Hua’s lawyer, who pointed out, “China has no law that defines Falun Gong as an evil religious organization, and there has been no witness evidence to prove that Falun Gong practitioners violate any enforcement of law.”
During the lengthy hunger strike, Binhai Prison authorities used a feeding tube to keep Hua alive. They also tortured him in an attempt to force him to renounce his faith, he later said.
Hua told family members during a visit that he was being beaten both in hospital and prison, and that at one point, guards sharpened one end of the tube before shoving it down his throat and into his stomach.
His wife’s formal complaints to the Tianjin Justice Bureau and the Bureau of Prisons were ignored.

Death at Any Time

Requests to Binhai Prison to release Hua for medical parole were routinely refused. “We’ll wait until he’s almost dead” was what guards told his wife, according to Minghui.
A prison doctor whom the family was able to speak to remarked on Hua’s condition: “He could die at any time.”
In November of last year the authorities put a stop to the visits, and again demanded that if the family wanted any leniency, they would have to force Hua to sign a statement renouncing Falun Gong.
According to Minghui, other Falun Gong practitioners are in Binhai Prison. Some have died from torture there. One Falun Gong prisoner, Ren Shengdong, was reportedly tortured with psychotropic drugs and went insane. Minghui listed others who were physically maimed from the savage torture dealt them.

9,000 Thumbprints

From August of last year, Hua’s family began gathering signatures—starting with their friends and neighbors—demanding that the authorities let Hua go. In one month they got 3,622 signatures. These consisted of a name, plus a red ink thumbprint.
The symbolism of this form of protest is not lost on the communist authorities. In ancient China the red wax thumbprint was used on petitions to the court to redress the gravest injustices perpetrated by local officials. Also, buy using their own names in such a document, thousands of Chinese are demonstrating that they are not willing to be cowed by the authorities, who have in the past declared their campaign against Falun Gong a political priority and severely punished supporters.
In response to the petitioning, local police began making more arrests, targeting a number of Falun Gong practitioners who had organized the letter, while visiting and harassing others who had participated.
By November 2013, however, another 5,233 Chinese in Tianjin City and nearby Shandong Province had signed and stamped the letter, bringing the total number of supporters to 8,855.
In the face of this public response, local authorities quietly let Hua go recently, Minghui said.

Faltering Campaign

The release of Hua is the latest sign that the campaign against the Falun Gong spiritual practice, which had attracted over 70 million followers in the 1990s, is becoming increasingly difficult for the authorities to sustain in the face of public pressure.
The campaign was started by former regime leader Jiang Zemin, who saw Falun Gong’s popularity as an implicit challenge to the primacy of the Communist Party, despite the avowedly apolitical nature of the practice, which includes slow exercises and is based around the three principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
Hua Lianyou, who is 52, began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. His health rapidly improved, according to Minghui. He has been imprisoned twice for his beliefs, at one point for five years.
The persecution of Falun Gong in China is still nationwide, and is now in its 14th year. Potentially millions of Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, detained, and beaten, and sent to brainwashing centers, labor camps, and mental hospitals.
In 2013, 9 Falun Gong practitioners in China died from persecution, while 192 were detained on legally questionable grounds. Six were sent to labor camps, and 17 were jailed, according to an annual report on the persecution compiled by Minghui.
The data is known to be incomplete due to strict information controls exercised by the Communist Party.
