(Minghui.org) The deaths of 14 more Falun Gong practitioners as a result of the persecution of their faith were confirmed in July 2025.
One death each took place in 2013 and 2022; four deaths occurred in 2024; and eight more in 2025. Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s strict information censorship, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners cannot always be reported on time, nor is all the information readily available.
The 14 practitioners, ten of them women, hailed from eight regions. Tianjin, a centrally controlled municipality, reported three deaths. Four provinces (Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, and Shandong) each registered two cases. The remaining three regions (Hebei, Hunan, and Shanghai) each had one case.
The youngest practitioner was a 38-year-old woman in Shandong, who died nine months after she was drugged at two psychiatric hospitals. The oldest practitioner was an 84-year-old woman in Tianjin, who died in 2024 while living in displacement to hide from the police; her health quickly deteriorated upon hearing about the death of her daughter months earlier due to the harassment of their shared faith.
Two practitioners passed away in custody, including a woman who died less than two months after her latest arrest and another man who was serving a 7.5-year term in prison. Most of the other practitioners passed away after serving prison terms and suffering torture and/or drug administration.
Below are select death cases.
Deaths in Custody
Ms. Wang Shuzhi, of Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province, died at the Jixi City Detention Center on July 19, 2025, less than two months after her latest arrest. She was 59.
Ms. Wang’s death is a result of the intensified persecution of local Falun Gong practitioners by the Jixi City government, Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and 610 Office since early 2025. They selected Hengshan District as a pilot location and instructed law enforcement to closely monitor practitioners living in the district starting in April 2025. The police also posted rewards for the locals to report on the practitioners. More than ten practitioners were harassed and had their Falun Gong books confiscated. Three practitioners were detained and fined.
Ms. Wang was arrested on May 22, 2025, and taken to the Jixi City Detention Center, which initially refused to admit her due to her poor health. The police held her at an unknown location and successfully had the detention center admit her a week later.
Ms. Wang held a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary detention and was force-fed. She became seriously ill and was hospitalized on July 13, 2025. As soon as she recovered a little, she was brought back to the detention center on July 17, only to die there at 3 a.m. on July 19.
2) 71-Year-Old Man Dies in Prison While Serving 7.5 Years
Mr. Zhao Jiyuan, of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, passed away in Jinzhou City Prison on July 4, 2025, while serving a 7.5-year term. He was 71.
Mr. Zhao, a former employee of the Shenyang City Fourth Construction Company, was sentenced to 7.5 years around October 2019. After he was admitted to the Jinzhou City Prison, the guards denied his family visitation because he refused to renounce Falun Gong. He developed many physical conditions due to the abuses and fell into a critical condition around December 2022. He had two heart attacks in early 2025 and was on the verge of death. He died in prison on July 4, 2025.
When examining Mr. Zhao’s body, his family was heartbroken to see how emaciated he was. They also noticed scars on his ankle from wearing shackles and several bruises on his thigh; one of his nostrils was bigger than the other, likely due to the insertion of a feeding tube. The family didn’t see any other visible injuries and agreed to cremate his body.
Deaths Shortly After Being Released from Custody
1) Imprisoned Shanghai Woman Not Released Until Cancer Metastasized, Dies One Month Later
Ms. Wang Quandi, of Shanghai, was arrested on December 24, 2020, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was sentenced to 4.5 years on an unknown date. When the guards at the Shanghai Women’s Prison abused her, she went on a hunger strike in protest.
Ms. Wang was later diagnosed with cancer but was never treated. After her cancer spread to her liver, the prison authorities finally released her on parole around April 2025, two months before the end of her term. She died a month later in May 2025. She was 77.
This was not the first time that Ms. Wang had been incarcerated for her faith. She was imprisoned twice before for practicing Falun Gong.
2) Mentally Healthy Woman Drugged at Two Psychiatric Hospitals, Dies Nine Months Later at 38
Over the course of two days, Ms. Liu Binghuan, a mentally healthy woman, was held in two different psychiatric hospitals, where she was injected with sedatives and unknown drugs. After she was released, her health steadily declined, her memory was hazy from time to time, and she eventually lost her ability to take care of herself. She died in the early hours of July 28, 2025. The 38-year-old woman is survived by her newlywed husband.
Ms. Liu, a native of Jinan City, Shandong Province, faced repeated persecution for her faith over the years. She served one year of forced labor between 2008 and 2009.
Ms. Liu was predeceased by her mother, Ms. Li Sufang, who also practiced Falun Gong. Ms. Li was sentenced to five years in 2017 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She developed high blood pressure due to the mental pressure and physical torture, and passed away in late 2019.
Before he died on December 24, 2022, Mr. Huang Min thought he was still in prison and serving a 20-year term for exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. The Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, resident was released on parole in critical condition in 2017, but faced endless harassment from the authorities in his final years. He was often dazed, and his health deteriorated. He died five years later.
4) 66-Year-Old Hebei Man Dies 20 Months After Being Released on Parole in Critical Condition
While serving a seven-year term at the Jidong Prison, Mr. Tian Shisheng, a Tangshan City, Hebei Province, resident, was abused to the point of becoming seriously ill. He had pus and blood in his stool. He requested a medical examination, but was denied. It wasn’t until March 2023 that the prison authorities got approval from higher-ups to take him to an outside hospital for a checkup.
After he was taken back to the prison, Mr. Tian was transferred to the team for the infirm. He was never given the exam results at the hospital.
On November 6, 2023, the prison authorities suddenly notified Mr. Tian’s family to pick him up. They just said he was released on parole and still refused to reveal his exam results.
The local police kept harassing Mr. Tian at home and ordered him to report to the local judicial bureau regularly. They also warned him to be on standby to be interrogated. He struggled to recover and died on July 18, 2025. He was 66.
Death After Latest Harassment
1) Forced Into Displacement to Hide from the Police, Jilin Woman Develops High Fever and Dies
To avoid police harassment for her faith in Falun Gong, Ms. Ji Weirong went into hiding and stayed in an empty house without any heat or other essential supplies. She developed a persistent high fever and passed away seven days later on December 27, 2024. She was 60.
Ms. Ji, a native of Baishan City, Jilin Province, moved to Linyi City, Shandong Province, a few years ago. She later moved back to Fusong County and stayed with her daughter. Fusong is under the jurisdiction of Baishan.
Ms. Ji was arrested in late September 2021 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She stood trial at the Jingyu County Court on December 30, 2021, and was sentenced to ten months with a 2,000-yuan fine.
The court initially told Ms. Ji’s family that they would let her finish serving time at the Baishan City Detention Center, only to take her to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison right after she was convicted. It was only when the prison called her family and asked them to make cash deposits for her that they learned about her secret prison admission.
After Ms. Ji was released, the local police harassed her on a regular basis. She then moved to the municipal area of Baishan.
In mid-December 2024, four officers from Linyi came to harass Ms. Ji. When they didn’t find her, they harassed her sons-in-law instead and stayed at the in-laws’ place for a day. To avoid implicating her family members, Ms. Ji went into hiding and stayed in an empty house. Due to the cold weather and lack of heat, she fell sick. When she returned to her daughter’s home after the Linyi police left, she soon developed a fever and died seven days later on December 27, 2024.
Ms. Ji’s daughter later told a local practitioner that she was very scared when her mother was harassed, and she also felt guilty and depressed about her death.
Ms. Du Hongfang, of Jilin City, Jilin Province, became incapacitated after serving an eight-year prison term between 2008 and 2016. She struggled to recover due to ongoing police harassment. Her condition deteriorated quickly after the latest harassment in June 2025, and she died a month later on July 23, 2025.
Ms. Du was brutally tortured at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison after being sentenced to eight years in prison in 2008. By the time she was released on July 3, 2016, she had no feeling in her entire body, and she suffered incontinence and had to wear diapers. She could not speak and drooled constantly. She was so weak that she shivered even during the hottest days of summer, under the cover of a heavy quilt. She needed to be fed every meal, which took a long time to finish.
The authorities also suspended her and her husband’s pension. Additionally, the couple had more than 100,000 yuan confiscated from their home during the arrest in 2007, which further worsened their financial predicament.
The police and street committee have harassed the couple many times since May 2020. They had no other choice but to live away from home. The police harassed Ms. Du’s sister instead.
In June 2025, the street committee led the secretary of the Changyi District Political and Legal Affairs Committee to break into Ms. Du’s rental apartment (also in Jilin City). They attempted to make her and her husband renounce Falun Gong. The couple refused to comply, but the harassment caused Ms. Du’s condition to suddenly deteriorate. She could no longer eat or drink. Days later, she fell into critical condition and was rushed to the hospital.
After a few days of treatment, Ms. Du was discharged because her condition was deemed incurable. She relied on tube feeding in her final days and died on July 23, 2025.
Deaths After Long-Term Persecution
1) Once Drugged in Labor Camp, Shandong Woman Dies at 69 Nearly Two Decades Later
Ms. Pang Xinfang, of Changle County, Shandong Province, died on June 12, 2025, after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong. She was 69.
Ms. Pang was arrested on September 12, 2006, and given two years of forced labor. She held firm to her faith and was brutally tortured. The labor camp guards once injected her with unknown drugs, causing her veins to collapse. She became incapacitated in 2007 and needed help with eating and using the restroom.
In 2015, Ms. Pang filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, which resulted in irreparable damage to her and numerous other Falun Gong practitioners. The local authorities kept harassing her after finding out about her complaint. She lived away from home to avoid being arrested.
For a period of time since September 2017, the police and 610 Office agents went to Ms. Pang’s home every day to harass her family. She was still doing odd jobs out of town at the time.
The relentless persecution took a toll on Ms. Pang’s health. She fell ill and relied on her family to take care of her daily needs. She died on June 12, 2025.
2) 65-Year-Old Woman Dies After Seven Years in Prison and Subsequent Harassment
Ms. Fan Chuanxiu, of Zixing City, Hunan Province, passed away on June 5, 2025, after enduring decades of persecution for practicing Falun Gong. She was 65.
Ms. Fan went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice her faith in 1999, only to be arrested and sentenced to seven years. While serving time at the Hunan Province Women’s Prison, she was forced to attend brainwashing sessions and sit on a small stool, motionless, every day for long hours. Her buttocks festered, and the pain was excruciating.
At one point, eight inmates surrounded Ms. Fan and put photos of Falun Gong’s founder under her buttocks and feet and exclaimed, “This is the country’s penal institution. You have to obey the orders here!”
As Ms. Fan refused to budge, the persecution escalated. She wasn’t only forced to watch the propaganda videos, but also ordered to hand copy articles slandering Falun Gong. When she refused to comply, the inmates placed photos of Falun Gong’s founder all over her body. They then forced her to stand in the restroom, but without allowing her to use it. She was forced to relieve herself in her pants. Unable to tolerate the smell, the inmates rinsed her with cold water before allowing her to go to bed after midnight. When she slept, they placed three photos of Falun Gong’s founder under her body.
When Ms. Fan urged the inmates not to persecute her, they refused to listen and forced her to stand while holding her arms up. After standing in that position for 12 days, she could no longer keep her balance and was on the verge of collapse.
After Ms. Fan was released, the local police harassed her on a regular basis and forbade her from practicing Falun Gong again. Her health declined over the years, and she died on June 5, 2025.

Editor’s Note: Dear readers, do you know that Falun Dafa, originally from China, is currently practiced by people in over 100 countries? But in China, since Jul. 20, 1999, Falun Gong is defamed, slandered and persecuted due to the Chinese Communist Party’s fear of Falun Gong’s rapidly growing popularity. Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology.
