Did Xi Jinping Order Reinforcing Control of Students for Fear of a Reoccurrence of the Tiananmen Student Movement?

It is just the beginning of year 2012.

The Chinese communist regime has introduced a series of
noticeable control measures.
Following the Chinese President Hu Jintao's "anti-Westernization,"
the Vice President Xi Jinping stressed "ideological control" to the universities.
Critics believe that as the next leader of the CCP, Xi Jinping
fears the reoccurrence of the 1989 student movement
which might disrupt his smooth succession
during the CCP 18th National Congress.

The 20th national meeting on party-building in higher
education institutions was held on January 4th in Beijing.
In his talk, Xi Jinping described universities as a key
ideological front for equipping young people with socialist values.

He also mentioned to "strengthen concrete, effective measures
to maintain so-called harmony and stability in higher education,
reinforce routine management, and build a good atmosphere
for a great victory of the CCP 18th National Congress."

Ming Xia, Professor of political science at City University
of New York,
indicated that in the remaining 10 months prior to taking over,
Xi Jinping is having profound anxiety.

Ming Xia: "If he is a little careless, he might lose the
opportunity to take over the presidency.
You see the most intense power struggle in the CCP
often takes place during the succession.
As for Xi Jinping, I believe he's thinking of securing the
succession as the priority."

On the first day of 2012, Hu Jintao published an article entitled,
“Construction of socialist culture and power” in Qiushi, the official magazine of the CCP Central Committee.
In his article, Hu Jintao warned about infiltration from
international hostile forces in the areas of ideology and culture.

On the other hand, Xinhua News Agency published a long
article on the evening of the 3rd,
"Documentary of Comrade Hu Jintao as general secretary of
the CCP Central Committee governing the country in 2011."
It also stressed the need to enhance the "cultural soft power"
and international influence.

Ming Xia believed that Xi Jinping's "strengthening the
ideological control in the higher education,"
and Hu Jintao's "cultural reform" share the same ideas.

In an interview with New Tang Dynasty TV, activist during the
June 4th democracy movement and a political science Ph.D. from Columbia University, Wang Juntao,
indicated that he realized that Chinese students of the 80's
and 90’s don't carry the ideological baggage from the CCP
towards the students during the 1989 student movement.

Wang Juntao: "They were educated by the Communist Party,
but they are basically willing to proceed with their own common sense,
and be rational while drawing some conclusions.

The CCP are worried that they will accept the universal values
of human society, and then have doubt about the corrupt tyranny of the Communist regime."

Going into 2012, the communist regime faces a more severe
political crisis,
higher emergence of large-scale mass incidents,
and surging demonstrations and protests.
Many Western media analysts believe that the Chinese
Communists are facing the ruling crisis as it was during the 1989 student movement.

Wang Juntao believed the situation in China is even worse than
the eve of June 4th.

Wang Juntao: "The large-scale persecution of Falun Gong
and the Democratic Party started towards the end of the 90s.
In the beginning of the 21st century, large-scale repression of
massive grass-roots campaigns will cause so much confusion and resentment in the younger generations.
Of course, the Communist Party is worried that these people
will get out of control, leading to the reoccurrence of the 1989 student movement. Then the whole nation will respond."

In the end of 2011, as the micro logging real name system
was implemented in China, on Christmas Eve,
the Chinese authorities sentenced two micro logging users,
activists Chen Wei and Chen Xi.

An "entertainment limit order" was officially
effective January 1st.
A number of satellite TV stations cut more than two-thirds of
the weekly prime-time entertainment programs.

Wang Juntao said the CCP has increased suppression efforts
by rushing cultural control in order to nip the so-called instability in the bud.
