About Rise Ascend and Direction
Rise-Ascend
I started making hip-hop music in the late 90s while in high school in upstate New York. Music became an important aspect of my life as I continued to write and record music throughout college. While for the most part “positive” relative to the more typical things in hip-hop music, my music focused primarily on the experiences and struggles of the African-American community as well as an interest in ancient Egyptian civilization. In 2000, I learned about Falun Dafa from practitioners on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Although deeply touched by the righteous teachings of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance set forth in Zhuan Falun, as a young man pursing personal interest, I became less diligent in my cultivation of Falun Dafa and eventually stopped practicing for a significant period of time. After being moved and awakened by a Shen Yun performance, I realized how much time I had wasted chasing things that ultimately do not matter and decided to return to Falun Dafa wholeheartedly and diligently cultivate Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, while exposing the brutal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. Since experiencing a fundamental change for the better in myself and elevating my moral character and state of mind through Dafa, I changed my artist name from Ankh Amen Ra (an ancient Egyptian name) to Rise-Ascend and my music naturally began to reflect the characteristic of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, which greatly elevated and expanded the themes in my music.

I was born and raised in Sweden. Since my dad was a touring saxophonist in the Blues and Rock genre, I grew up among musicians. He had his recordingstudio in our livingroom and there were often people around, singing and playing. I come from a big family, most of us creative in various ways. As a kid i first started playing percussion, and then I took up playing the guitar and after a while started my own rock/pop band. But it wasn’t just rock music that interested me, Hip hop-music was also one of the genres I early took an interest in and listened to rap artists from both the East and West-Coast and I loved the power of the music combined with ”real life-experiance-rap” Later on I made valuable experiences from taking part in the production of two musicvideos with a swedish artist. One was produced in New York City and the other one in Stockholm, Sweden. I also went on a two month long promotionstrip to Los Angeles with the same artist. During that period I started up doing my own musicproducing. Another important thing in my life is Falun Dafa, also called Falun Gong, I started practicing Falun Gong in year 2000. Just one year after the persecution of Falun Gong started in China, July 20, 1999. Since I felt Falun Gong was such a good practice and I benefited from it so much. I took part in many activities around the world to raise awareness of the cruel persecution that is still going on in China today. Now I’m also able to use my own music productions to raise awareness of Dafa, and the persecution in China.
