Netizens Celebrate Jiang's Reported Death

Many websites report on the death of Jiang Zemin, former leader of Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Hong Kong's Asia TV reported on July 6 on Jiang's death. But the CCP's Foreign Ministry denied the news, claiming that Jiang is in good health. Related online posts are censored.

On the 90th anniversary of the CCP on July 1, former party leaders attended the celebration, including Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan and Song Ping. Jiang Zemin was absent, and media said he was gravely ill.

Hong Kong's Apple Daily reported that Jiang had a massive heart attack and is now on life support.

Hong Kong's Oriental Daily and BBC quoted the Apple news. Eyewitness revealed online that a military hospital in Beijing is under heavy guard, and high-ranking CCP officials are all summoned to Beijing.

Asia TV reported on Jiang's death as breaking news, interrupting regular evening programs on July 6.
The news continued in a moving caption. But Beijing has not verified the news.

Asia TV's report has been published on the web. Netizen Guo Baofeng: “A post from Hong Kong
said Asia TV reported at 6:36pm on Jiang's death. I reposted it on a micro-blog. But Sina.com censored it,and my web post stayed only for an hour. Many saw the post; other blog sites should have it, too.”

On July 6, Shangdong News website in China carried a mourning for Jiang, with his pictures.
At 8 p.m. that day, this website was closed.

Netizens commented, “Thank Heavens!” “He died too late;” or “The whole country celebrates.”
Many said that they would set out firecrackers.

Chen Zhonghe, former head of Chinese Democratic Alliance:“I am very happy, we should celebrate.
It is good that this bad egg died. The only pity is that he did not get tried; he is too evil.”

Inside China, web searches related to Jiang Zemin are all censored, and sensitive words include heart attack, general secretary, Asia TV and “toad” (i.e. Jiang ); even the word Jiang (also meaning “river”) is censored.

Wang Yichao from Caixin Media posted a cartoon of Jiang on micro-blog, but his article was deleted.
Wall Street Journal and the Guardian reported on the CCP's censorship related to Jiang.

Hong Kong's Outpost magazine said that Jiang knew his time was limited, and said twice
that one of the stupid things he did was to persecute Falun Gong.

Chen Zhonghe: “I was detained in 1999 at a hotel in Wuhan; Falun Gong practitioners were detained there also, and were treated much more cruelly. They were not allowed to sleep and locked up all night.
That was so cruel, they should not be persecuted. Jiang made a huge mistake, his biggest crime.”

RFI radio said, their reporter in Shanghai learned that Jiang was seriously ill and could die soon.
However, RFI said that his condition was stable, and might not die for a couple of days.

Willy Lam a China expert, wrote on Jiang in Apple Daily. Lin quoted a source in Beijing, saying in April, Jiang expressed his personal opinions to Politburo, supporting Wang Qishan for the Premier post.
Jiang also supported Bo Xilai for being first Vice Premier; Bo is now promoting red revival in Chongqing.

Lam said Jiang's health is one of CCP's top secrets. Signs indicate Jiang's follower Zeng Qinghong
is waning in his influence on the next CCP cabinet.
