Tongqing's Story: Farmers Eat Dirt

Anchor:
Tongqing's Story is a documentary film by Tongqing villagers of Huazhou City in Guangdong. To protest the authority, villagers used three months to finish this self-conducted, self-shot documentary. Recently, Tongqing's Story has been circulated on the internet, and copied to a number of sites.
Let's take a look at the background of the documentary.

Narrator:
Tongqing's Story documented how the local government used a blank contract to cheat villagers and occupied their land. Villagers described the difficulties encountered in the process of protecting their rights, and analyzed the motivation of the government.

Farmers: "We Tongqing people have been controlled for long by the 'resident destruction committee.' They destroyed the field drainage, occupied our fields, sold out our farm lands. Without lands, what can we do? The only way seems to beg…”

Southern Rural News reported on Mar. 17, this film that reflects the grass-roots official corruption in China and the plight of the farmers forced to rent their land will be go down in China's history. It will also become a model documentary on acute social problems in China!

In the film, when villagers questioned subsidy standards, the head of Tongqing Town's Party Committee said that the government subsidize 82.35 kg rice per acre a year. If farmers grow their own, how much can they make?

A farmer said, "This argument is very ridiculous." The land can produce 247.05 – 395.28 kg per acre a year, which is much more than what the official said. The farmer commented, this official seemed to know
nothing about farming.

For two decades, in the name of "public building", the local government has appropriated 21.4 acres of local lands and still owes the villages 300,000 Yuan for land compensation. Less than 10 acres of land left in the village - less than 4 sq meters per person.

The villagers said their requests were constantly ignored. "Fake media" even published negative reports on them.

Tongqing's Story has caused great repercussions on the Internet and picked up by Ku6 Net, Baidu video and a number of other websites. Up to date, there have been more than 130,000 hits on merely 56 Net and more than 400 comments.

One netizen said, looking at the farmers, I feel really sad, "Even over 80 years old, still need to do farming." "Eighty six year old man was taken to the police station by beast-like officials who falsely accused him of
chopping up people." Old man: "Three or four men caught my limbs, and carried me onto the bus. They took a chopper along, pretending that I used it to chop people, only to catch me. Otherwise they had no way to catch me. "

Users of 56 Net said this kind of thing is common in China, it is everywhere, but people have nowhere to redress the wrongs. Government officials speak for each other. Sad ah! ! !

However, internet forums on Tongqing's Story were deleted in Maoming and Huazhou of Guangdong.

Upon learning that the governor was coming to visit, An eighty-year-old man in Tongqing village said, what they can do now is to only say a few words. If not allowed to speak, the villagers are bound to
be angry to death.
