Two sons of a high-level official in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) who were tortured because they practice the spiritual discipline of Falun Gong have now demanded guilty officials make amends. At least one official has responded, publishing a letter in the Chinese-edition of The Epoch Times asking forgiveness.
The brothers were arrested in China several years ago, and both were sent to reeducation-through-labor camps for their beliefs. One was interrogated continuously for 15 days and nights, during which he lost consciousness at least four times. Despite pressure, he never signed a document renouncing the practice.
Both brothers requested a large amount of compensation for their harsh treatment and demanded an open apology from local officials of the 610 office, a Party organ formed to eradicate the practice of Falun Gong. The story was relayed by Minghui.org, a Falun Gong website that acts as a clearing house for first-hand reports from China.
Evidence of Corruption
The brothers warned the local 610 office, high-level officials of the police department, and the local secretary of the CCP that if they are not paid compensation for their ill treatment, the brothers will publish on the Internet evidence showing corruption of the local officials. They will also give the evidence to CCP central leaders and to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to have the officials detained and interrogated.
The older brother was said to have obtained information on the officials from his circle of friends, who are also children of CCP central leaders. They pulled strings in various branches of the CCP to track down officials who participated in the persecution of the two brothers. They then used long distance camera equipment and followed the officials to gather evidence showing corruption.
The brothers are also demanding that the 610 office and the local Political and Legislative Affairs Committee hand over videos of their interrogations. Police are required by the Procuratorate to record interrogations.
According to Minghui, local police told a local Falun Gong practitioner that the 610 office, police department, and the relevant Political and Legislative Affairs Committees (the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee controls almost all aspects of law enforcement in China; there are committees at the provincial, municipal, and local levels) are all frightened.
If they provide recordings of the interrogation, they will likely admit to extorting confessions by torture. If they don’t provide the recordings, then it would be an illegal handling of the case. If the interrogation is illegal, then the former and the latter will hold true.
The Chinese regime began its persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in 1999 after Jiang Zemin feared that the wide spread of the practice’s traditional moral teachings was a threat to the Communist Party’s control of China. Falun Gong is a form of qigong, a popular form of exercise in China, that spread quickly due to its being offered at no cost, its health benefits, and its teachings based on truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. Today in China, Falun Gong practitioners are regularly arrested, tortured, and killed for their beliefs.
According to Minghui, local 610 officials tried talking with the brothers, but the brothers have remained unmoved in their demands.
An Apology
Subsequently, an apology letter has emerged, sent from an official of the local Political and Legislative Affairs Committee who participated in abusing the two. The official asked a relative to write a letter on his behalf, seeking forgiveness.
The relative, who was able to prove to The Epoch Times the authenticity of the letter, asked the paper to publish it. The paper has withheld the official’s name and location.
The official expresses regret and a state of helplessness. “The CCP is unreasonable, if I don’t listen to higher-ups, then I will lose my job; if I listen to my higher-ups, it looks like I will end up in jail, and I can’t involve my higher-up, and they might even try to kill me,” states the letter.
“After entering a detention center or prison, no one will even know how I died, in the dark, and while outsiders don’t know, how could we insiders not know? How do we live? Are only the higher leaders people, and are we not people? Achievements all theirs, the mistakes all ours?” states the letter.
“Now I understand why Wang Lijun ran to the U.S. Consulate,” the official states. “Why did he give evidence to a foreign party? Why did he sink the boat? Helpless: it’s OK to lose his title, but he didn’t want to die.”
During the incident with the two brothers, Jia Qinglin, a senior leader of the CCP, part of the Politburo Standing Committee, came to investigate, which the letter states has scared officials at all levels.
“They all thought the incident has gotten big, and if Jia Qinglin can come, that means all other Politburo Standing Committee members must also know.” The letter states that in the end, all the local officials blamed each other, which made Jia Qinglin furious.
This isn’t the first time Jia has been sent to investigate a Falun Gong case. A few months ago he traveled to his hometown in Hebei Province to “conduct research,” according to a state-run media report in July.
Someone familiar with the reasons behind Jia’s visit told The Epoch Times that he had gone to secretly investigate the matter of 300 villagers who had signed a petition demanding the release of Wang Xiaodong, who had been imprisoned for practicing Falun Gong.
The petition became known as the “Brave 300 case.” It was circulated within the Politburo and alarmed top Party leadership, according to sources.
In the letter, the official urged a grassroots effort for police to send evidence of the persecution against Falun Gong to relatives overseas. “It is not that we want scapegoats, but the more officials get involved, the safer it is for everyone. If the incident got big, then the CCP can’t resolve it using political methods… they won’t quickly give many severe punishments,” the letter states.
“Please think carefully, when a person is about to die, they speak with more kindness, my relative [the official] really feels like living is worse than dying right now,” the letter states.
The letter expresses regret on the part of the official who persecuted the two brothers, and notes his fear of being punished for his crimes.
“Since Jiang Zemin started persecuting Falun Gong, the majority of princelings, and children of high-level leaders privately expressed their opposition… for 10 or more years, Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Xi Jinping, and Li Keqiang have been rising to power. Re-evaluating the treatment of Falun Gong is the best way to regain public support,” states the letter.
The letter also mentions the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners has gained more worldwide attention, which worries CCP leaders.
“Others might not believe it, but we do. We insiders knew how cruel and merciless the CCP really is. The CCP will do anything,” states the letter.
The letter stresses the importance of live organ harvesting charges, stating, “If live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners gets openly exposed, that will be the end of the CCP.”
